Modern Waste Lyrics

Go to his house, He’ll make you a big star
Offer your power, turn and face the camera
Makin’ a movie, isn’t that what you want?

Dying to recover, never really knowing better
Spinning all the things you thought that you deserved
Dying to recover, never really knowing

Ready or not! I can’t support you with my part-time gig.
It’s all that I’ve got – what would it take to walk away from this?
You say we can make it, what’s the difference?
Think that we can make it on our own.

Wish all your life that you’ll be forgiven
Feelin’ the weight of your new addiction
Searching outside you for all the answers

Dying to recover, never really knowing better
Spinning all the things you thought that you deserved
Dying to recover, never really knowing

Ready or not! I can’t support you with my part-time gig
It’s all that I’ve got – what would it take to walk away from this?
You say we can make it, what’s the difference?
Think that we can make it . . . oh no

Honey what’s the face? We won’t live forever in this way
You look good as spoon fed in a daze, if you’re wondering
Honey, what’s the face? We’re just getting by inside a cage
I think this is borderline insane, If you’re wondering

Ready or not! I can’t support you with my part-time gig
I said it’s all that I’ve got – what would it take to walk away from this?
You say we can make it, what’s the difference?
Think that we can make it . . . oh no

Say that we can make it
Hide the pictures and put us in our places
On our own

"'Modern Waste' is about the common American practice of living life as a chase in our struggling economy. Tomorrow has replaced the 'NOW' in our modern day society. We are busy looking outside ourselves for all the answers, authority, direction, security, control in these uncertain times." -- Vocalist Genevieve Schatz

This song is about a young woman who is drawn into the sex industry with the promise of fame and money. Over time she begins to see that it is destroying her, pulling her down and enslaving her to an empty life. She sees no way out. She is chained to her trade and her guilt. Then he enters her story. A man, someone who sees her for her true self and the beauty within. He encourages her to leave. He doesn't have much to offer, but believes they can make it. The struggle of weighing the security of her current cage and the uncertainty of freedom racks her mind. He says, "Take a chance; walk away!" In the end she puts her past behind her ("hide the pictures") and the take their first steps together, "on [their] own." This song is not only musically incredible, but also brings light to the ever growing problem of pornography and the hypersexuality of today's society. Hundreds of women are trapped in this same situation, threatened with violence and abused to the point of feeling worthless and undeserving of anything more. Porn edits out the consequences of unhealthy sex practices and poisons our minds with lies. Its high time influential individuals in todays media speak out against the harmful effects of pornography.
