this has been my favorite black lips song for a while, but i usually get a new favorite every week; they're songs just stick with you. but the meaning, like many other black lips songs, eludes me. A lot of their lyrics seem to be nonsensical and this is no exception. Just a fun band

I reckon the family tree is a reference to a family's lineage however the context also makes it seem like a "lover's lookout"; a hanky panky point of sorts. So with the themes of traditional American garage rock, it's song about asking for a long term relationship with someone (marriage) in the guise of 'a hi 5 your buddies the next day at school' type date.
