Lose It Lyrics

Don't wanna lose you, don't wanna lose
Don't wanna lose you, don't wanna lose
I never knew you, I never knew
I never knew you, I never knew
Your body's harmful, the very shape
The cracks are deeper, on every plate

Don't wanna lose you, don't wanna lose
Don't wanna lose you, don't wanna lose
I get impatient, with every word
The more you ask me, the more I've heard
This is a thirst that I've never had
I've never bled for another man

Don't wanna lose you, don't wanna lose
Don't wanna lose you, don't wanna lose
My face screams
My face screams
My face screams
Without an emotion

In the darkness comes, another, another
Hold her by the thumbs, the other, the other

Really good song. Mental lyrics.

Mental is a great word for it.

She craves that one man, can't imagin to live to take a single breath without him. She never had those feelings before and can't explain why she loves him so terribly. Sure, she realizes that at least she don't know many facts (!) about him but that means nothing for her because she knows his mind and that counts. Even if she knows that he's bad for her and they will never be together in the way she wants, she keeps holding on, even when he already left her. But she excuses his behaviour with his (suspected) mental problems and connection trouble. She want him so much and suffers but he won't come back.

Knowing that the singer identifies as queer, I can't help but hear it as she's confused and scared because she's suddenly having feelings for a man, just like it's confusing for someone who's always identified as straight to suddenly have feelings for the same sex.
The verses: "Your body's harmful, the very shape" and "this is a thirst that I've never had I've never bled for another man" Are what really make me think that, and then there's the verse: "In the darkness comes, another, another Hold her by the thumbs, the other, the other." Sounds like she's maybe torn between the man and a women or just women in general. The "Don't wanna lose you, don't wanna lose" might be she's always identified as queer and now she's having feelings for the man, she doesn't want to lose him, but she feels like she's losing something that's a part of her and she's at war with herself.

I don't know, just how I hear it. =) This is my first attempt at interpreting a song, so I apologise if it's terrible and disorganised. Love this song and band though!

My Interpretation

I completely agree. I first heard this song while watching a love scene between two women on the show Lost Girl, and that interpretation kind of ties into the story lines in that show.

In general most artists will tell you that their songs are open to interpretation (with exceptions of course), so I think both interpretations have validity. We all agree this is an amazing song!

To me, this comes across as the speaker, presumably a female, being torn as to whether she should break up with her partner, cheat, or remain faithful.

I think this (amazing!) song is talking about how this girl is falling hard for this guy that she's just met or only got a glimpse of (in other words, love at first sight, aka fairy tale stuff). Other guys have never made her feel this way before and it kind of scares her. Breaking down of ze lyrics:

"Don't want to lose you"- he's great, she wants to keep him with her "Don't want to lose"- however, she thinks that if she gives into her strong feelings, then she'll be going against everything she's ever pushed away before, therefor, losing the battle she's had with herself "I never knew you, I never knew"- she doesn't know him, just what she can see "Your body's harmful, the very shape/ the cracks are deeper, on every plate"- she is visually very stimulated by this guys appearance and she thinks that underneath it, he's just as beautiful (a great personality) "I get impatient, with every word/ the more you ask me, the more i've heard"- I feel like maybe they've now started conversing and she wants him to stop beating around the bush and just ask her out or something like that "This is a thirst I have never had/ i've never bled for another man" - like I said, she's never felt this strongly about a guy before; it's so strong that she feels like she's losing everything inside of her (a fantastic line!) "My face screams...without an emotion"- I think this means that she has this reaction to this guy (her bold feelings), but there was nothing to really make her feel this way because she hardly knows him (the emotion to make her face scream); something is scaring her, but it's not the guy himself "In the darkness comes another, another/ hold her by the thumbs, the other, the other"- I take it as, from somewhere (the darkness) comes the guys girlfriend (another); and the "hold her by the thumbs" part gets me, I really don't get that part...

Sorry if I debunked this too much, I just really love this song and I think Austra's really good at music :}

My Interpretation

I agree with your interpretation and I also love this song so so much! and just Austra in general.. I don't now if you don't know this, but Katie Stelmanis is gay, so it could have something to do with her suddenly falling in love/having a crush on a man, but because of her sexuality she knows that she's going to lose him, which is the only thing she can focus on (as she repeats this) And I hate that part with "hold her by the thumbs", because I also do not know what it means - also, I can't figure...

It's about infatuation with someone that you can only have for a brief while...My ex-gf and I listened to this song last year and even back then it made me sentimental and rather sad because I KNEW that I would lose her. She was preggers with her exes kid and I couldn't provide for her and the baby and it just seemed so unrealistic for me to be with her after someone elses child would be born unto her and take my place in her life.
