Skeletons Lyrics

I guess I've been bruised, if we were to speak plain.
Every bruise that comes to flesh, makes it mark on the brain.

You say it's always been and always will be.
Anything you say has already been said, a million times.

Do you think of all of the side streets we walked past slow,
of buried skeletons in the back yard?

So you think you've moved me to change,
how could I be moved when I want to move away from this place?
Things you think you know or you may have seen,
might have come to pass if your parents had been kept clean.

Do you think of all of the side streets we've walked past slow,
of buried skeletons in the back yard?

Cover art for Skeletons lyrics by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

"I guess I've been bruised, if we were to speak plain. Every bruise that comes to flesh, makes it mark on the brain."

It's a song about being jaded by what the world has thrown at you in the past. Although you get over things, the memories never go away, and they ultimately change the person you are and the way you see things.

"Do you think of all of the side streets we walked past slow, of buried skeletons buried in the back yard?"

The skeletons in the backyard represent the memories of a place he's been way too long, and is ready to move on from, and every time he passes certain places, they remind him of what's happened in the past.

"Things you think you know or you may have seen, might have come to pass if your parents had been kept clean."

Had he been brought up differently or had different parents, he probably would think differently.

I totally relate, and therefore am loving the shit out of this song right now.
