Love Is a Verb

I feel like its about someone having to ACT when they have feelings .. its not enough to just have the feelings and send good thoughts or little hints. Sometimes you need to just show it and be more direct about it. Thats why Mayer compares Love to being an ACTION

I read somewhere that this song is a perfect response to Taylor's "Mine"

Love isn't something you own, and love isn't a thing. Never say "Mine" in love.

These are all many misconceptions of love. But we're all different- love can mean different things for different people. Love ain't a thing; you can't hold it in possession. It's a verb, so show it. He maybe just wants someone (like specificly) to show him love. He doesn't want her words because sometimes those don't mean shit. Actions speak louder and are most times more sincere.

Can't believe nobody commented yet. Anyway, I hope this song is on his new album because I really like it and would enjoy hearing a studio version.

The most perfect song for a first dance at a wedding. Nobody steal my idea! :P haha too bad the chances of me getting married anytime soon are slim to none. This song is going to be overused by the time I get married.

Obviously a very talented man. Love his music. This one is not bad. It'a about love being physical...in one's physical life, as well as emotional and spiritual, of course. Once you have it, you know it and you have to work (and play) to make it last.

I think this is him responding to what many songs say about love and how that it's not something you can hold, it's something you have to keep trying at.

I was listening to Ours by taylor swift and i thought that maybe in a way this is a reply to that. He says Love is a verb its not something you own contrary to what she was saying 'The stacks are high , the water's rough but this love is ours.' I dont know who Ours is about though, she says something bout the gap in your teeth and a tattoo .. Some people say its Jake Gyllenhall(sp?) so yeah.. either way im pretty sure this song has a little bit of a link with that. I gotta say John is really more sutle and classy with his song writing, Taylor should try that .. ehm Dear John ehm.

Man i wonder if John ever stumbles across these, reads and laughs to himself. It must be cool to know what you mean and watch others buffle over what the heck he you're actually talking about. haha

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this song is about fucking. And alot of it, too. IMO, it's in the same vein as "More Than Words" which is another song about fucking. The funniest thing is that both songs have been and will be played at weddings until the end of time. And I truly believe that most of the time, those people that choose to play them at their own weddings don't understand what they're really about. LOL!!!

Props to JM for this lyric "YOU gotta show show show show me" like he's just gonna lay there while she does all the work!!! Masterful.
