"It took a sentimental melody / to figure it out" surely alludes to Bizarre Love Triangle - the melody of those lyrics matches too closely to the New Order song.
i think this song can be read as a response to all the criticism over their new sound, and the importance of artists' freedom to explore and not feel obliged to any particular genre simply because of their previous popularity within it. don't be complacent people!!
