Heroes Lyrics

Not gonna miss you when you're dead and gone
Not gonna talk about you over and over and over
Not gonna find you under latest nostalgia, not happily ever after

Not gonna listen 'til you play that song (play that song)
Don't wanna think about you over and over and over
Not gonna read about the latest fads on your trendy blog
I want nothin' to do with that
'Cause you've made a mess of everything
(And I'm not listening)

You're not a hero, you're a liar
You're not a savior, you're a vampire
Sucking the life out of all the friends you've ever known

You're just a train wreck, not a winner
Up on your soap box preaching down to the sinners
The saints without a cause, we're not listening, we're not listening

I'm gonna a start a revolution
Of convoluted disillusion
(Start a revolution)
I'll need a war with no conclusion
And in the final hour I'll be a confident coward
'Cause if we stand for nothing, we'll fall for anything

You're not a hero, you're a liar
You're not a savior, you're a vampire
Sucking the life out of all the friends you've ever known

You're just a train wreck, not a winner
Up on your soap box preaching down to the sinners
The saints without a cause, we're not listening, we're not listening

Now this is moving in the same direction
But I'm a little too spent to care
'Cause it's a battlefield 'til it blows over
Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer

We throw stuff but we live in glass houses
We talk shit like it's a cross to bare
You're only relevant 'til you get older
Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer (enemies closer)

They're gonna miss me when I'm dead and gone
They're gonna talk about me over and over and over
They're gonna find me under latest nostalgia, happily ever after

But I'm not a hero, I'm a liar
I'm not a savior, I'm a vampire
Sucking the life out of all the friends I've ever known

We're a train wreck, not winners
On a soap box preaching down to the sinners
The saints without a cause, we're not listening, we're not listening
We're not listening, we're not listening

"Not gonna miss you when you're dead and gone Not gonna talk about you over and over and over Not gonna file you under latest nostalgia Nor happily ever after

Not gonna listen to your played-out songs (Played-out songs) Don't wanna think about you over and over and over Not gonna read about the latest fads on your trending blog I want nothing to do with that

'Cause you've made a mess of everything (And I'm not listening)"

So basically he's talking about bands that have "sold out" and how he's not going to listen to them or what they have to say because they "sold out".

"You're not a hero You're a liar You're not a savior You're a vampire Sucking the life out of all the friends you've never known You're just a train wreck Not a winner Up on your soapbox, preaching down to the sinners A saint without a cause We're not listening"

He's probably trying to say the "sell outs" are the people they present themselves to be and they're, in fact, sell outs.

"I'm gonna start a revolution Of convoluted disillusion (Start a revolution) I'll lead a war with no conclusion And in the final hour, I'll be a confident coward"

I think now he's talking about wanting to change the industry and failing to do so.

"Cause if we stand for nothing, we'll fall for anything"

He's trying to say that the band has to stand for what they believe in or they'll fall in between the cracks.

"They're gonna miss me when I'm dead and gone They're gonna talk about me over and over and over They're gonna file me under latest nostalgia And happily ever after"

I think he's implying that he thinks he's better or different than the others.

"I'm not a hero I'm a liar I'm not a savior I'm a vampire Sucking the life out of all the friends I've never known We're a train wreck Not winners On a soapbox, preaching down to the sinners Saints without a cause We're not listening"

Then he turns the finger back to him/the band. I think he might be mocking the people who've hated on them for "selling out". It lies somewhere in between sarcasm and the truth, I think.

I agree with this, although I also think that the final chorus (where they point the finger on themselves) is more about them not taking themselves too seriously, which is a philosophy that All Time Low has claimed to live by many times.

To me this song has something to do with their previous song "Hometown Heroes; National Nobodies". Maybe then when they weren't really "out there" with their major label (not saying they're sellouts) they were just heroes in their hometown and not worldwide since they weren't that famous. And I guess like the comment before me the ending is somewhat talking about themselves, how they "sold out" in the eyes of most of their old fans, maybe even themselves. But they're "not listening" 'cause they know what they're doing and what they want.

My Opinion

I think this is kind of acknowledging that people are calling them sell-outs. The music is more on the lines of some of their older stuff yet keeping the new "pop" sound they are playing now. So in a way they are saying we dont care about people talking trash on us cause they arent listening. yet they are listening by writting this song. its a mind fuck.

Here's a little thought. I believe they are writing about hoe everyone thinks they are selling out but what if they have wroten this in the point of view of the fans.

only good song on the album. being a songwriter i can tell this song serves as a reminder/savoir for himself. they made it catchy pop punk esque because he wanted the crowd to sing it back to him so every night he performs this song it encourages him to do what he's talking about in the song and no longer be the sell out he's become. i think the next album from this band is going to blow this one out of the water and be like more like the earlier albums (i could be wrong).i think how the first two chorus' is for the fans to sing to him, and the last chorus being directly about him somewhat exists to prove that the song is in fact about himself. the first verse is about not wanting to be forgotten and by being unoriginal he's becoming easily forgotten, which he wants to stray away from

i think most of you are on the right track about the meaning of him wanting to change the music scene but failing to do so despite how bad he wanted to do it (in the final hour i'll be a confident coward)

mark my words the next abum will be amazing and nothing like this -sincerely mr hopeful

so do you think that they're new album Don't Panic blew Dirty Work out of the water lol

Oh, you're listening alright. And I hope it hurts so you begin to learn empathy...that's what I think the sequel to this song should be :D

"And in the final hour I'll be a confident coward" makes me think of Doctor Who at the end of the Time War.

THAT IS NOT OKAY!

I'm reading George Orwell's Animal Farm for school and this song seems to fit the storyline :l

My Opinion

Not gonna miss you when you're dead and gone Not gonna talk about you over and over and over Not gonna file you under latest nostalgia Nor happily ever after

[I think he's kind of talking to himself, and these are his worries of the future]

Not gonna listen to your played-out songs Don't wanna think about you over and over and over Not gonna read about the latest fads on your trendy blog I want nothing to do with that

[He keeps listening to their old songs and seeing how they changed because everyone is calling them "sell-outs" but he just wants to stop thinking about it and seeing it all over the internet]

Cause you've made a mess of everything (And I'm not listening)

You're not a hero, you're a liar You're not a savior, you're a vampire Sucking the life out of all the friends you've ever known You're just a train wreck, not a winner Up on your soapbox, preaching down to the sinners A saint without a cause We're not listening We're not listening

[He's pretty much insulting himself and pointing out his flaws, as well as thinking that the fans have stopped listening.]

I'm gonna start a revolution Of convoluted disillusion (Start a revolution) I'll lead a war with no conclusion And in the final hour, I'll be a confident coward

[He wants to make music that is different, so even though people think they are "sell-outs" he'll try to prove them wrong]

Cause if we stand for nothing, we'll fall for anything

[He wants his songs to mean something or else they won't stand the test of time]

You're not a hero, you're a liar You're not a savior, you're a vampire Sucking the life out of all the friends you've ever known You're just a train wreck, not a winner Up on your soapbox, preaching down to the sinners A saint without a cause We're not listening We're not listening

Now this is moving in the same direction But I'm a little too spent to care Cause it's a battlefield till it blows over Keep your friends close and your enemies closer

[He thinks that the band is straying towards the way that other so-called "sell-out" bands were going, and he's just getting tired out of it so he wants to try to pull the fans closer, but manages to somewhat prove what they were saying]

We're throwing stones, though we live in glass houses We talk shit; it's a cross to bear You're only relevant until you get older Keep your friends close and your enemies closer Enemies closer

[They're doing bad things they really shouldn't be doing, and talking shit constantly. 'You're only relevant until you get older' is confronting Alex's biggest fear, he stated in an interview that his biggest fear is becoming irrelevant.]

They're gonna miss me when I'm dead and gone They're gonna talk about me over and over and over They're gonna file me under latest nostalgia And happily ever after

[Pep-talking himself that people do like him, and he won't become irrelevant]

I'm not a hero, I'm a liar I'm not a savior, I'm a vampire Sucking the life out of all the friends I've ever known We're a train wreck, not winners On a soapbox, preaching down to the sinners Saints without a cause We're not listening We're not listening We're not listening We're not listening

[Truly accepting all of his faults, and then saying that they're aren't listening to people who are calling them "sell-outs"]

My Interpretation

That makes a lot of sense actually.
