On the Other Side

I find myself quite attracted to this song.

On first listen, "On the Other Side" seems to reference the afterlife, a love that even death can't part. But then that seemed too simple of an interpretation to me. I now think it refers to any obstacle or challenge a couple may face. "I'm gonna love you somewhere on the other side" is a reassurance of being able to get through anything together.

There's a lot of faith in this song, despite the unknown. The chorus, with all its "I don't know"s, ironically makes the first verse's "I know you were meant for me" stronger.

It's discovering your love destiny, and gaining conviction from the fact that it's the only part of God's plan you really need to know. Let the rest be a mystery, as long as you have someone to share it with. This would make a great wedding song.

Unfortunately, the online tab for this song sucks. I will not stop until I figure out every last chord.

Came here to say that this was my wedding song. Such an amazing tune. Heard it again on the new orchestra album. So great.

This song means a freakish amount to me. It’s honestly kind of scary. Usually I’m not big on commenting on sites like this but I think it’s really sad that not many people have commented on this beautiful song.

I want this song to play at my wedding. I listened to it so much this summer. And yet everytime it plays my face just lights up. It’s gorgeous.

The song writing is just impeccable. Honestly, I think it’s some of Augustana’s best work. Like there is so much uncertainty in life, but at the end of the day, even when everything has gone horribly — love is what matters. He acknowledges that it could end anytime but that this love means so much that it’s beyond all the struggles that we face in this life.

I love that he acknowledges that he doesn’t need to know what the future holds or how things work. He doesn’t need to worry about life because he has his person. I am a pretty stressed out person, I get anxious pretty easily. I think that finding someone who makes this life so much more magical is so important.

That’s honestly what this song is. It’s magical. I listened to it a lot while I was living in New Mexico for the summer. This song will forever remind me of sunsets in Santa Fe. This song will remind me of driving at 10 pm to go hangout with friends that I met a couple of months ago but felt like I had known forever. Most importantly, this song reminds me that love is very real. And I might feel like I’m going to be alone forever, but one day I’m going to meet someone who makes me feel like this song was written for us.
