Medication Lyrics
We'll keep calm and carry on with good intentions.
They'll prescribe the rights and wrongs until we're perfect.
So maybe one day we'll be safe, in control and full of grace,
Never making a mistake, so flawless
Cut us deeper to the core, we won't feel a thing.
Imperfections we ignore, embrace indifference
I wish this wasn't all so hard, to be yourself and not on guard,
To stop the racing in your heart, we'll fight it.
Put me under now I'm powerless
I'll take it all, I'll take it all, I'll take it.
I can't breathe without you.
You won't trust me, I won't trust you too.
You bring me back, you bring me back, you bring me,
Medicate me
Hide me deeper in my shell until I'm all alone.
I'm hearing voices in this cell, hallucinating.
I could have sworn I heard it too, a sad and beautiful adieu.
It's telling me what I should do, I follow.
Put me under now I'm powerless
I'll take it all, I'll take it all, I'll take it.
I can't breathe without you.
You won't trust me, I won't trust you too.
You bring me back, you bring me back, you bring me,
Medicate me now.
As I'm turning into this reflection you control me,
My body and my mind, my emotions and my pride.
The simplest things became the hardest part now.
The easiest parts have taken all my dreams.
I'm afraid I'll never be okay. I'm scared I can't be happy.
This silence of fear, is not a way to be sincere,
And it's a way to cope, a way to deal, but not for me when I can't feel,
The subtleties that make me want to, be alive and not a statue,
Breathe the air, be here to talk to, I'm afraid I'll never be the same

Sometimes inspiration can come from anywhere. I was sitting around my girlfriend's house while she was at work, trying to come up with some ideas for a song. I've never really suffered from any kind of writer's block, but on this day, I felt I was getting close. After staring around the room for a while, I noticed a poster on her wall that said, “Keep Calm and Carry On.” That got me thinking about depression, mental illness and how deeply people can become affected by it. Some people take drugs to cope, and it helps; other people are worse off. The song is about that.
