Diana Lyrics

Coming home just to find her in bed.
"I'm crazy for love", that's the last thing she said.
Covered in colours red, white and blue.
This is the last time I'm nobody's fool.
Look at me! I'm talking to you.
The streets are busy but I got nothing to do.
Some are scared and some don't care.
This is the last time I'm nobody's fool.

Ohh, Diana. Why don't stay with me tonight?
Ohh, Diana. You always leave in the morning light.
Ahh, I know it's me you're looking for.
Oh, oh, oh. Diana. You never play by the rules.
Cuz' you're nobody's fool.

Full of grace that's not what I see.
I see a girl full of misery.
I told myself now I'm telling you.
This is the last time I'm nobody's fool.

Ohh, Diana. Why don't stay with me tonight?
Ohh, Diana. You always leave in the morning light.
Ahh, I know it's me you're looking for.
Oh, oh, oh. Diana. You never play by the rules.
Cos' you're nobody's fool.

Ohh, Diana. Why don't stay with me tonight?
Ohh, Diana. You always leave in the morning light.
Ahh, I know it's me you're looking for.
Oh, oh, oh. Diana. You never play by the rules.
Ohh, Diana. Ohh. Diana. Ooh. Diana.
You never play by the rules.
Cuz' I, I know it's me you're looking for.
Oh, oh, oh, Diana you never play by the rules.
Cuz' you're nobody's fool.

I love the reoccurring "nobody's fool" lyric. I think its key to the meaning of the song. Being nobody's fool (not allowing herself be used or tricked) and refusing to play by the rules is the mark of a social rebel who does things her own way, perhaps because she fears manipulation and wants to be in control always. That is Diana in this song (Ooo Diana you never play by the rules/cuz you're nobody's fool).

However, if Diana is adamant on being 'nobody's fool' then she will never experience real love or happiness. Refusing to trust others and not letting herself be used ever gets her nowhere - Maya indicates that she knows Diana is still unhappy even though she fakes she is not (Full of grace that is not what I see/I see a girl full of misery). Maya already discovered this herself and so she's giving this advice (I told myself now I'm telling you/this is the last time I'm nobody's fool).

There's more to the story in this song but I'll leave it up to others to post :) I wrote enough...

@janice111 Diana died. Much of the first album is referencing her. She was amazing.
