De Dodenakker Lyrics
when I reach your land will you be out there
buried the day in that field
grew your past there
reach
reach
when I reach out my hand will you be near then
buried myself in that field I hoped to find there
when I call out your name will you appear then
will it stay silent
will I die alone again
I carried the void
down deep in me
carried the void
down deep in me
reach
when will I reach
the new day
when will I meet
reach
I will rise
the new day
and we will meet
you
give us
courage
you give us
a light before our eyes
a lamp before our feet
ready to die
down deep harvest of blood
I cannot reach
give us
courage down deep in me
a light before our eyes
the end of life
the light before our eyes
dead inside
down deep wanting our blood
death the harvest of life
death in my eye
death in our blood
a lamp for our feet
a light for my eye
you give us courage
leave
there is no end
that we may not reach
the new begins
that we will not reach
there is no end
that we may not reach
the new begins
that we will not reach
buried the day in that field
grew your past there
reach
buried myself in that field I hoped to find there
when I call out your name will you appear then
will it stay silent
will I die alone again
down deep in me
carried the void
down deep in me
when will I reach
the new day
when will I meet
reach
I will rise
the new day
and we will meet
give us
courage
you give us
a light before our eyes
a lamp before our feet
ready to die
down deep harvest of blood
I cannot reach
give us
courage down deep in me
a light before our eyes
the end of life
the light before our eyes
dead inside
down deep wanting our blood
death in my eye
death in our blood
a lamp for our feet
a light for my eye

De Dodenakker means "The Killing Field" or "Graveyard" in dutch. I used google translator and am not a native speaker. I think the song is about a memory. Maybe about a great battle that happened along time ago and some poor soul has come to visit the place again. He has lost someone to the struggle and is trying to find him or her. Halfway through the song he has starts to remember the battle and starts to rekindle his feelings of that bloody day.
But I can see another way to see the song. Maybe the singer is a man in a graveyard and he is mourning his loved one. He is so distraught that he wants to join him or her in the ground, maybe even buries himself alive.
It's the killing fields indeed. Usually used in the context of the first world war. The area where most of the trenches and battles of WOI were are close to where these guys are from I think.
