aight so.

Gymnopédie = Gymnopaedia Gymnopaedia = ancient Roman dance of naked children. wiki it for more info. Satie, in 1887, introduced himself as a "gymnopédist" (yes he was the first to use this title) myself, I never imagined the naked Roman children dancing to this type of music... something more folksy, but ah, they were classy.

anyway, he also described his own music as "furniture music" - I never made the connection between those two (furniture and his music) either, but perhaps I'm thinking of a different kind of furniture.
