Bittersweet Lyrics
I'm just setting, I'm just setting a trap
And I'm not pulling, no
I'm not pulling for you, you're just pulling at me
I'm not a betting man but this is a sure thing
I've been to Tokyo and to South Africa
So many places that you might say I've seen it all
But my favorite place is the warm embrace
Of holding your hair back in a bathroom stall
Everything I do is bittersweet
You could tell me secrets that I'll probably repeat
I'm not trying to hurt you, I just love to speak
It feels like we're pulling teeth
So bittersweet
I guess thats how its gotta be
I guess thats how its gotta be
All that hate is gonna burn you up
It keeps me warm at night
Warmer than anyone
I think how many drinks I've had
No more in either hand
I'm slurring on purpose
And it's certainly worth it
Everything I do is bittersweet
You could tell me secrets that I'll probably repeat
I'm not trying to hurt you, I just love to speak
It feels like we're pulling teeth
So bittersweet
I guess thats how its gotta be
I guess thats how its gotta be
I guess thats how its gotta be
You and me
Another puppetry
It's such a mystery why you're here
And you became as clear as cellophane
My voice of reasoning
I don't think I can take the way you make me out to be
I'm just setting, I'm just setting a trap
And I'm not pulling, no
I'm not pulling for ya
Everything I do is bittersweet
You could tell me secrets that I'll probably repeat
I'm not trying to hurt you, I just love to speak
It feels like we're pulling teeth
So bittersweet
It feels like we're pulling teeth
So bittersweet
It feels like we're pulling teeth

I think it's about Brendon's Adhd and how he always hurts the people that he loves the most by talking.
"I'm not trying to hurt you, I just love to speak." -In an interview he once said that when he is talking he doesn't think. He just blurts things out. And he ends up hurting the person and he has to quickly apologize. And for the rest of the song he finds someone that he likes(preferably a girl) and he hurts her by talking. And he is saying that he apologizes if I aver hurt you in anyway. I'm not trying to and I'm making fun of you. And all this time he was with this person he always talks and he thinks she's offended. But then he starts to wonder why the person is always with him when he talks to her like that. "It's such a mystery why you're here". Brendon now found a person who understands him and why he talks like that.
This sounds so much like Brendon xD especially the "I'm not trying to hurt you, I just love to speak" God bless that boy and his ADHD
Being the Ryden shipper than I am, I think this song is about Ryan. Which is valid, because no where in this song does Brendon mention a girl.
"But my favorite place is the warm embrace Of holding your hair back in a bathroom stall"
Um, yeah. I just can't not think of he and Ryan.
"You could tell me secrets that I'll probably repeat"
Brendon is always blabbing about things he shouldn't, saying things that can be misconstreud. There is one interview (back when Ry and Jon were still in the band) where Brendon's explaining how now that the band has more money they can "have seperate beds". And Ryan gives him a weird look and goes, "Seperate beds?" and then Brendon has a little panic attack and goes, "Oh! Oh, no! Seperate ROOMS! I meant seperate rooms." It is just totally Brendon to accidentally let slip an embarrassing secret of Ryan's (or anyone's) without meaning to.
And "I'm not trying to hurt you, I just love to speak"
This could mean he's really not trying to hurt Ryan or Jon, even though they left, but sometimes when he says things in interviews about those two departing, the interviewers or readers take is as him bashing the other two guys.
"I'm slurring on purpose and it's definitely worth it"
This reminds me of the part in 'Hurricane' where Bren sings, "Oh I confess, I confess to the room where I'm blessed" or "...the rumour of us". It seems like no one really knows what he's saying. He's slurring on purpose, so people can't prove anything about he and Ryan.
And I think the lyrics are: "You and me In a preverbial tree" .
This is all I can write for now.
Hey good job! it's true everything you said.
Hey good job! it's true everything you said.
I'm pretty sure the part at the end is a take on The Beatles' "Getting Better":
I've got to admit, it's getting bitter It's getting bitter all the time
I try to listen to the songs off of Vices & Virtues with an unbiased perspective, but a huge part of me can't help but to think half of the songs are about Ryan. To me, this sounds like Brendon is talking about the split and how he and Ryan don't talk much anymore and how Brendon might be coming off as hostile in the interviews when all he really is doing is not watching what he says.
Also, "I'm slurring on purpose and it's certainly worth it" makes me think he's talking about a specific line in Hurricane. The lyrics are printed "Oh I confess, I confess to the room where I'm blessed" but it sounds like he's saying "Oh I confess, I confess to the rumor of us" and maybe Brendon slurs that line on purpose.
