Q&A
Free's Lyrics
I'm standing in a field
A field of questions
As far as the eye can see
Is this what it means to be free?
Or is this what it means to belong to the free?
To be free in bad times and good
To belong to being derided for things I don't believe
And lauded for things I did not do
If this is what it means to be free
Then I'm free and I belong to the free
And the free
They belong to me
A field of questions
As far as the eye can see
Is this what it means to be free?
Or is this what it means to belong to the free?
To belong to being derided for things I don't believe
And lauded for things I did not do
Then I'm free and I belong to the free
And the free
They belong to me

We are always free, and we always belong to ourselves and to one another too. However, we forget that because we imprison ourselves in the past and the future by focusing on the past and future so much so that we are no longer living in the present. When we are free to the experience of the present (a freedom which we always possess to be), you find your true self-- which exists in between the experience of the moment and your thoughts about your experience. Neither the experience nor your thoughts on the experience define you-- your true self is the part of you that witnesses-- and FEELS-- these events. Once you have connected to your true self, you can no longer see yourself as a linear creature who once said things people derided, or did things people lauded. You are a constantly evolving being that is 'riding for the feeling'. At that point, you are truly free-- disconnected from the ego and unified with the nature of existence. Thus, all belong to all.
