Q&A
Puzzled by People Lyrics
Love is the answer.
I'm pretty good at puzzles but puzzled by people
and I don't trouble trouble and trouble don't trouble me.
Stare at the paper, fold it in two
facing the walls are the soles of my shoes.
[Chorus]
Sometimes you have to find out for yourself.
Sometimes you need to be told.
Sometimes you never find the answer.
We never had a crossword (crossed word)
My words got lost and you never heard
I'm two down you're one across the room
Beginning with I and ending in U
beginning in my eye and ending as an X
leaves a bad taste in my mouth
To think of you again like the bad taste leaking from the ink in my pen
doodle at the side as I do too life
choosing to lose time instead of doing what I like
Starts off black and white and lacking in life
until pen in blue lends it a hue.
[Pre-Chorus]
Puzzled by people
loving isn't easy
you can't google the solutions to people's feelings
[Chorus]
Sometimes you have to find out for yourself.
Sometimes you need to be told.
Sometimes you never find the answer.
Chewing on the pen
two down again
not enough letters for the clue in my head
Lost in thought, never been there before
with the turn of a pun on the tip of my tongue
the freshest memory will fail to recall
as well as the messiest, faded scrawl
[Repeat Pre-Chorus & Chorus]

I think there's an obvious meaning to this. He is making the general point that people are complex, and difficult to understand. Specifically he makes references figuring out love, which is relatable.
"Sometimes you have to find out for yourself. Sometimes you need to be told. Sometimes you never find the answer."
Here he is saying there's no rule of thumb for what to do. You can't generalise people, context, feelings, relationships...
"you can't google the solutions to people's feelings"
This reinforces and re-emphasises this point. I'd like to think this is a reference to sites (e.g. like ask.yahoo) where people will ask for/give generic advice on relationships. Because people DO google the solutions to people's feelings, albeit it futilely.
In a line: people are complex.
I completely agree, what i found most interesting is the second verse, it appears that Mike (whether its biographical or not is open to opinion) - what a dumb bracket comment - missed his chance with someone he dearly loved, but he never managed to display or communicate his love for her "never had a crossword" and he is now bitter because of his missed opportunity with his ex-lover "beggining in I and ending in you, beginning in my eye, and ending with an X/ex"

This song is probably my favourite streets song, incredibly well...
This song is probably my favourite streets song, incredibly well written - you can envision the moment of time in which the narrator wrote this peace.
His desperation has got so bad, it has led him to searching relationship advice on google. A reference about the interlinking of modern technology and human emotion.
