The Calendar Lyrics

They said if you don't let it out
You're gonna let it eat you away
I'd rather be a cannibal baby
Animals like me don't talk anyway

Feel like an ambulance
Chaser of fate
Pray I could replace her
forget the way her tears taste,
Oh the way her tears taste

Put another x on the calendar
Summer's on its deathbed
There is simply nothing worse than knowing how it ends
And I meant everything I said that night
I will come back to life,
But only for you
Only for you

The world may call it a second chance but when I think back it was more of a relapse
Anticipations on the other line and obsession called while you were out
Yeah it called when you were out

Put another x on the calendar
Summer's on its deathbed
There is simply nothing worse than knowing how it ends
And I meant everything I said that night
I will come back to life,
But only for you
Only for you

Asleep in the hive
I guess all the buzzing got to me
But I'm still alive
At night your body is a symphony
and I'm conducting (conducting)

Said if you don't let it out,
you're gonna let it eat you away

Put another x on the calendar
Summer's on its deathbed
There is simply nothing worse than knowing how it ends
And I meant everything I said that night
I will come back to life,
But only for you
Only for you

This song is definitely about the band splitting into two, more toward ryan. It might not have been intentional, but it definitely resembles it

"They say if you don't let it out, your gonna let it eat you away"

"Put another X on the calendar, Summer's on its death bed" - They split up in the summer

"The world may call it a second chance, but when i get back it was more of a relapse" - The second album not doing as well, Brendon returning to more of the first albums style.

It's about splitting up, could be the band.

They said if you don't let it out You're gonna let it eat you away I'd rather be a cannibal baby Animals like me don't talk anyway [People say you shouldn't let your feelings fester, he says he'd much rather do that because he's not the person to talk]

Feel like an ambulance Chaser of faith Pray I could replace her forget the way her tears taste, Oh the way her tears taste [He's chasing the faith that it could last, but he can't replace "her" (I still have an inkling that it's a Ryden song) or forget the sadness he caused her.]

Put another ex on the calendar Summer's on its deathbed There is simply nothing worse than knowing how it ends And I meant everything I said that night I will come back to life, But only for you Only for you [He can see the end of their close relationship, he had a confrontation with the person and said things the other person may have thought was just a ruse, but he meant it and he would only go back to his normal self for that person.]

The world may call it a second chance but when I think back it was more of a relapse Anticipations on the other line and obsession called while you were out Yeah it called when you were out [When the band broke up it was their second chance, but they went back to a similar style of their first album, hence 'relapse'. Fans are anticipating and obsessing over what's going on with the break-up, but the person just doesn't seem to be around]

Put another x on the calendar Summer's on its deathbed There is simply nothing worse than knowing how it ends And I meant everything I said that night I will come back to life, But only for you Only for you

Asleep in the hive I guess all the buzzing got to me But I'm still alive At night your body is a symphony and I'm conducting (conducting) [Everyone's comments finally got to him, whether it be fans or other people. He's saying he's still himself, and that they have something sexually musical between them]

Said if you don't let it out, you're gonna let it eat you away

Put another x on the calendar Summer's on its deathbed There is simply nothing worse than knowing how it ends And I meant everything I said that night I will come back to life, But only for you Only for you

Generally I think this can be a song about how it feels to know there's a timer on a relationship.

"There is simply nothing worse than knowing how it ends"

They know the clock is ticking on the relationship, but can't do anything about it. Theyre left counting the days of the calendar, waiting for it to end like they know it will.

I love this song!! except...the lyrics here, in the booklet that came with the cd the "x" on the calendar was spelt as "ex" so that prob has something to do with the meaning....

as for me, i think the song is generally about loving someone and having to move on....

I think this song can be about how time passes by too fast. This can mean that the band is splitting up, like others say, because of the rapid change of time. For example, the band first formed and made songs in their high-school years, so maybe school is causing them to separate after the summer. But this song can be very confusing, like the phrases "There is simply nothing worse than knowing how it ends", "I will come back to life, but only for you", and "The world may call it a second chance but when I think back it was more of a relapse", though the last two seem to connect with each other. But overall, all of these lyrics seem to be based on the quick passing of time.

CAN I JUST SAY THAT THE LYRICS "Put another x on the calendar Summer's on its deathbed" AND "Anticipations on the other line and [obsession] called while you were out" WERE WRITTEN BY PETE WENTZ ALLEGEDLY ABOUT MIKEY WAY IN 2006! I put obsession in brackets because pete used the word excitement but never the less, brendon pretty much called up pete and was like "hey midget man, i really dig the shit you said about your (ex)boyfriend, can i use them in a song about my (ex)boyfriend?"
