Dear Friends Lyrics

Dear friends
You are angels and drunks
You are magi
Old friends

You stuck a pin in the map I was in
And this is a note for a road sign
Cuttin' the breeze in this Tennessee sundown
Came the sounds of the voices I know
I've been pondering trees
On the steeliest come down
But now a moment I'm home

I've got bluster enough
For the sails of a clipper
And the truth never frays a good yarn
But it struck me to say while so far away
You are with me today
You are here are in my head, in my heart

Dear friends
You are angels and drunks
You are magi
Old friends

You stuck a pin in the map I was in
You are the stars I navigate home by

Beautiful song, and not too cryptic. Garvey illustrates the strong emotional connection of friendship with belonging - home and heart are where the friends are (family are of course a subset), no matter what kind of people they are. A perfect thematic end to a beautiful album about childhood and coming home.

Beautiful song indeed, It puts me in mind that no matter how far away you are from home, your friends are never far from your thoughts or indeed you from theres, Love the fact that it kind of references advice given on long drunken afternoons/evenings with "You are angels and drunks You are magi" intimating sage and sometimes not so sagely advice but allways offered in good faith and company.

Angels look after you, magi are wise, drunks are fun. Drunks can also be complete pains in the arse.

Sums up friends quite nicely I think!
