My Leather, My Fur, My Nails Lyrics

She’s got style
she rips it off my back and puts it on her coat hook
She won’t smile
you’d best avert your eyes and not give her a second look
Things she wants
not a companion but some pages in her journal
Things go wrong
we started equal but it got way too paternal

She wants a coat made of my leather, and my fur, and my nails
She’s always cold despite the weather, she needs sun, she’s so pale
You think she’s had enough, it’s not enough,
she always wants more She always wants more of my leather, and my fur, and my nails.

Things she wants
not a companion but some pages in her journal
Things go wrong
I wouldn’t dare to all but keep it all internal
You can’t realize the danger that I’m in
If she calls me, I’m not home

She wants a coat made of my leather, and my fur, and my nails
She’s always cold despite the weather, she needs sun, she’s so pale
You think she’s had enough, it’s not enough,
she always wants more She always wants more of my leather, and my fur, and my nails.

Take me out of water, shrink me in the dryer
Strut around and let the world know what disaster means
Take me out of water, shrink me in the dryer
I don’t suit my skin.

I honestly think this song is about a relationship whose central problem is a disconnect in sexual priorities between the guy and girl. The girl in the song seems like she has a very cold personality ("She won’t smile"..."she's always cold"),

But she seems to have an obsession with kinky sex: "She always wants more of my leather, and my fur, and my nails."

A lot of the violent imagery ("she rips it off my back and puts it on her coat hook") seems to be sexually charged as well. The bridge seems to be an expression of the speaker's insecurity, perhaps sexual as well.

I honestly think this is a song about Anna Wintour...

Or someone similar to her, It would really help explain the, "not a companion but some pages in her journal"

I have almost no doubt though, it's about someone he was in a relationship with that used him for probably many things.

Simple, really. About a guy who's being used.

"not a companion but some pages in her journal" plus the reference to her making a coat out of him.

"She's always cold despite the weather",

could just be saying she has a cold personality, but I'd take it even further; I think it's a metaphor for her being a vampire/succubus based on the next lines: "she needs sun, she's so pale"

Vampires are always cold, they never go out in the sun, and they're pale. She's a vampire because she's sucking the life out of him by using him.

I think it's about a gay man who has an overbearing straight female friend. She wants to embody everything about him and ends up smothering him because she can't find her own identity.

Insanely Perfect.
