Pounce Bounce Lyrics

What's it like to be a marble?
Did I get something in your eye?
She's a referee, and I'm lethally
Overdosed on pumpkin pie
Yes the future is mount delicious son
But the leaf changes forms continuum
My destiny is calling me, it says
Jon Mess you should own a gun

Feel the room filling up with smoke
Billowing, billowing up, holding on for the worst, rise above

Can I get a piece of that?
Uniquely post relapse
The quota and balancing act
Can I get a piece of that?

I'm all run down
I need more in my veins
So let's open fire
The whispers start to drill
The pain of second place

What's it like to be an atheist?
Are you okay with suicide?
Well it's baffling that my ears can bleed
When I see your domestic thighs
Yes the future is kush and bubblegum
But I prefer wood to linoleum
My destiny is calling me, it says
You'll be fine if you take some Tums

I'm letting out, well I feel that I've dropped it all,
I'm letting out, well I feel that I've rushed it,

I'm all run down
I need more in my veins
So let's open fire
The whispers start to drill
The pain of second place

(Background)
I'm angry, believe it, I need this just as much as you
Its complicated

obviously, yerf,

when he says "I prefer wood to linoleum", he's referring to the above line "the future is kush and bubblegum" he prefers da real herb.

Jonny, best I can hear:

Feel the room filling up with smoke, Billowing, billowing up, holding on for the worst, rise above.

Come down, ... in my veins, ..., the whispers start to drill, The pain of second place.

I'm letting out, well I feel that I've dropped it all, I'm letting out, well I feel that I've rushed it, ...

Come down, ... in my veins, ..., the whispers start to drill, The pain of second place.

i feel like this song is something Jon Mess wrote real high thinking about how he see's all these perfect people-- ("marbles") who can make their own rules in their own perfect world-- ("she's a referee") and how he's just him.. leaning towards suicide. --"Jon Mess you should own a gun" --"Feel the room filling up with smoke" --"What's it like to be an atheist? Are you okay with suicide?"

The second verse is a little off for me on what it all means, "I prefer wood to linoleum"??

After watching multiple live versions of the song on youtube, here is what makes most sense for Jonny's chorus:

I'm all run down I need more in my veins So let's open fire The whispers start to drill The pain of second place

ahh i just figured that out then from watching them live lol

From what I understand, it's a self-esteem song. One of many inner insecurities. "What's it like to be a marble? " Asking what it's like to be perfect or better. Feeling as if he is confined to a certain role and following rules "She's a referee." The line about "wood to linoleum" connects with the line of "kush and bubblegum" in meaning he prefers the effects of the real herb to its counterpart. The chorus about being "run down" and needing more in his veins and the "quota and balancing act" has to do with having enough to not feel like a loser among better people but not so much that he can't function properly. And the "whispers" that "drill the pain of second place" are his inner demons that often remind him of his shortcomings and insecurities. And really the whole song is like a battle between his thoughts and his outer actions in accordance to them.
