When The Sun Goes Down On Your Street Lyrics

When the sun goes down, down on your street
Oh, let me be the one you meet
In the lamplight hung when the night has just begun

And though you fear where shadows fall
There’s nothing there to harm you at all
Uncover your eyes, presume uncertain skies

And rise, arise
Step into the night, it’ll be alright

When the sun goes down, down on your street
And you’re feeling strangely incomplete
Oh, please don’t grieve for days that fell like leaves

Under a moon that hangs from silver strings
We know not what this darkness brings
The stars all gleam with possibilities

And rise, arise
Step into the night, it’ll be alright

When the sun goes down, down on your street
Oh, let me be the one you meet
For I’ve waited years for you to return to me

So rise, arise
Step into the night
Yes rise, arise
And step into the night
Rise, arise
And step into the night, it’ll be alright

My friend sent this song to me after I had gone through a break up with my boyfriend of four years. I think it can apply to any life situation or chapter of one's life but I was able to apply it to the context of a relationship. Even though the "sun has set" in your relationship, you shouldn't be afraid to venture into the darkness, or the unknown. You've always been familiar with "daylight" and being able to see what was in front of you and predict what was coming. Since the sun has set, darkness and fear of the unknown keeps you from living your life normally. The type of light (starlight and moonlight) guiding you now is unfamiliar. If you are too scared to adapt to change, you'd be ignoring the possibilities ahead of you that only moonlight and starlight will allow you to see. Change does not mean it is over, it just means new possibilities.
