That sweet little red-head's got her hooks in my back
She points her finger and she shows me what I lack
Her pale skin, it burns so hard in the midnight air
She paints the streets a shade of grey around my chair, so come on in

Her heartbreak on my skin and her scent on my fingers
Her taste is on my mind, it constantly lingers
'Til I can breathe her, 'til I can believe her
'Til I can breathe her, 'til I can leave her.

Every kiss is a little sickening
I can feel deaf fingers quickening
Tightening my passageways
If you can't count the years start counting down.

Try to remember that she hates you,
And though she might elate you
She tries to kill the great that's in you now
She's hand picked the fate that awaits you,
And despite her words
It's not too late

I wrote a goddamn love song to praise everything I hate
And the kids were wanting a chorus line and they sealed my picture's frame
She might run shit for right now, but I'll be damned if it's forever and always

As the chorus fades away like friends in high school hallways

Oh, I got this feeling that things will never ever ever be the same

"What about those rainy nights in London?
What about the crippling desert heart?
What about all those times you swore you'd never leave me?"
"What about the hospital in LA?"
"You took me back after that night"
"What about that blackened image in my mind?"
"I swear I'll burn with a new light"
"What the frozen, dripping holiday bird that's cold?"

She's cold as ice

Haven't figured it all out yet but here's my take so far... :

That sweet little red-head's got her hooks in my back She points her finger and she shows me what I lack Her pale skin, it burns so hot in the midnight air She paints the streets a shade of grey around my chair, so come on in

Her heartbreak on my skin and her scent on my fingers Her taste is on my mind, it constantly lingers 'til I can breathe her, 'til I can believe her 'til I can breathe her, 'til I can leave her.

Every kiss is a little sickening I can feel death's fingers quickening Tightening my passageways If you can't count the years start counting days

?that she hates you ? she violates you She tries to kill the ?

Despite her words it's not too late

I wrote a goddamn love song to praise everything i hate and kids were watching the chorus line and they sealed my picture's frame

She might run shit for right now, But I'll be damned if it's forever and always.

As the chorus line eats away like friends in high school hallways/always

Oh, I've got this feeling That things will never, ever, ever be the same

Things will never be the same

What about those rainy nights in London? What about the crippling desert heat? What about all those times you swore you'd never leave me?

What about the hospital in LA? Took me ? ? away that night What about that blackened image in my mind? I swear ??

What about the ? ? next door

Cold, cold, cold...she's cold as ice!

    Song Meaning

knowing that protest almost never write what they mean i think this song is about cigarettes, and Rody's attempt to quit. If your a smoker you can start to see meaning in the words.

the song is clearly about smoking

Hair Trigger means responding to the slightest provocation or stimulation.

That sweet little redhead is talking about the ember on the cigarette

Her pale skin BURNS so hot in the midnight air clearly the white paper most cigs are wrapped in

She paints the streets a shade of gray around my chair (the Ashes)

Her heartbreak on my skin her scent on my fingers (the coloring and smell of the constant smoker)

Every kiss is a little sickening i can feel death's fingers quickening tightening my passageway (clearly the loss of the ability to breath from smoking)

Try to remember that she hates you and although she might elate you she trys to kill the great thats in you now. (once again talking about the time consuming and physical degeneration of smoking)

And she's handpicked the fate That awaits you now And despite her words It's not too late. (clearly the knowledge that quitting will lead you to a better life)

I wrote a goddamn love song to praise everything i hate (his pro smoking cigarette song) And kids were watching the chorus line and the sealed my pictures frame(watching him and thinking that rody is a proud cigarette smoker which at the time he was but has since changed and the regret he now feels)

She might run shit for right now but i'll be damned if it's forever and always (the decision to quit)

As the chorus line fades away like friends in high school hallways (the regret subsiding with time and the death of his friend)

I got this feeling that things will never be the same (him actually beginning to quit)

What about those rainy nights in london what about the crippling desert heat what about all those times you swore you'd never leave me? (the good times that he truely loved smoking)

What about the hospital in L.A. You took me back after that night (relapsing) What about that blackened image in my mind? (seeing what lung cancer does to a person) I swear i burn with a new light (the crap you will tell yourself so you will start up again)

What about that frozen dripping holiday bird thats cold.....she's cold as ice...(my favorite metaphor of the whole song....quitting cold turkey!)

You know, waffle sauce, you might be right. I thought this song was about a girl, but it definitely also could describe cigarettes. Though, the "her scent on my fingers" part is less hilarious now :P

    Song is definitely about cigarettes.

    And the one part is:

Try to remember that she hates you And though she might elate you She tries to kill the great that's in you now.

When I thought the song was about a girl I thought he was saying violate in a positive way (sex). But it makes more sense like this.

What about the hospital in LA? Took me a pack to get through that night (or You took me back after that night) What about that blackened image in my mind? I swear I'll burn with a new light

What about that frozen dripping holiday burn that's cold.

Hair-Trigger” is about addiction. I believe the type of addiction is fairly evident through the massive metaphor. It was kind of a cheap way to write an entire song about a burning little stick and not have it consist of only two lines. It was sort of my way of communicating to people that I do not love it. - Rody Walker

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
