Autumn Breeze Lyrics
Wait,
Round it goes
My mind's all over the place
Sometimes I find it hard to face these thoughts I chase
Sold my soul to the devil
In front of a rising sun
Fell amidst this world of darkness
Just before the church bells rung
And I said hey
I could use a change
Let the Autumn breeze rush in
It's time to turn the page today
I feel a little strange
Just a silhouette I see
Saw the world go up in flames
Oh no,
I got coal inside my chest
And it's starting to show
I need to renovate my brain
And watch the flowers grow
I could place this mess beneath my bed
But she'd be back to haunt me soon
And when I close my eyes
It'd be Hell I'd see
So I'd rather clean this room
And I said hey
I could use a change
Let the Autumn breeze rush in
It's time to turn the page today
I feel a little strange
Just the silhouette I see
Saw the world go up in flames
Oh no,
Before I close my eyes
Close this door
Into my dreams I'll stay
Forevermore
(It's a long walk back to town)

Round it goes
My mind's all over the place
Sometimes I find it hard to face these thoughts I chase
Sold my soul to the devil
In front of a rising sun
Fell amidst this world of darkness

I could use a change

Seeing as to how there are no interpretations, I'll provide one myself. I believe that this song is about a person who wants to change, but can't. Maybe its because of his lack of self-control or past. He keeps looking at himself and trying to change but his silhouette(past self) is still there, and looking at his past from his present self. Since he can't change his destructive personality, he'll just make everyone else life worse, for revenge or just because of his personality.
I find that the exact opposite of this song is written by Perfect Confusion AKA Cage the Elephant themselves. Rubber ball is literally about just loving everything and he is able to produce a positive influence.
One main idea of change comes from his drug addiction. Matt Shultz can't change himself and his addiction in Autumn Breeze, but he finally does change himself in Rubber Ball. the progess of Cage the Elephant really show the progress of Matt's problems and how he feels about them. Its good to see that one doesn't forget his past.
Heh, well after listening to the song for a bit, I also think that the song is about a person who has already changed, but cannot change back to his former self; and of course, this follows his comments about his destruction of the world etc.

This doesn't have much to do with the meaning in particular, but during the first chorus, I usually picture some guy chasing a girl only to see its his silhouette and then he gets into a Mexican standoff within one of those old wild west settings(music after chorus sounds like Mexican standoff music) and...

I think that it shows how ready for change he is, eg "wait, round it goes my mind's all over the place sometimes I find it hard to face these thoughts I chase sold my soul to the devil in front of a rising sun venom is this world of darkness just before the church bells rung
and I said hey I could use a change let the autumn breeze rush in it's time to turn the page today I feel a little strange just a silhouette I see so the world will go up in flames" like he is welcoming the change after he made a mistake
Yo, just slightly updating my last comment from a year ago. I've turned to underground rap now and have lost a passion for alternative and indie rock. It seems that someone has changed here. Even with this change of heart, I'll still remember my past.
