Tapestry Lyrics

And what a fucking waste of a day
We just lay around and waste away
Because when that sun goes down it's bottoms up
We try to reach the bottom of the endless cup

Everybody's getting older, but no one's growing up

As the weather's getting colder, the room starts heating up

Kev's hair just keeps falling out and Chris just keeps getting fatter
But from where I sit now, on this rickety stool, None of that shit really matters because
This is our Versailles
Palace on the swamp

Listen to me for a nominal fee you can have anything you want
What matters the most is the backdrop ghost circling your floating corpse at the end of the haunt

Never forming pleasantry

I'm so drunk I can't feel a thing

Pledge your allegiance to the fucking swamp king

Drunk as hell
Dumb as all get out
So pucker up those pretty lips of yours and
Kiss my ass and shut your mouth

Sometimes a knife right through your heart is exactly what you need
Sometimes the things that your ashamed of make you who you're supposed to be

Listen to me for a nominal fee you can have anything you want
We'll remain here
We'll remain here forever and always
What matters the most is the backdrop ghost circling your floating corpse at the end of the haunt
We'll remain here
We'll remain here forever (always)

Like a million other soldiers on a thousand other battlefields we wait
Wait for the dawn
Like a million other soldiers yes we wait

This is our Versailles
Palace on the swamp
This is our Versailles

This song is partially about a fear of stagnancy–a sort of shiver down the spine that life has amounted to almost nothing. However, at about the halfway point of the song, there's a realization and an acceptance, which is to say, "If this is all I am, fuck it. I'm gonna be alright.” There’s also an allusion to Jean-Luc Picard's youth in there somewhere- Rody

Since no one mentioned it I'll throw in that it's a "Star Trek: The Next Generation" reference.

Tapestry is the name of a Star Trek episode that touches on Captain Picard's past. It explains how he got his artificial heart - a result from being stabbed in a fight and how this has helped him become the man he needs to be ("sometimes a stab right through the heart, is exactly what you need").

Also, "Like a million other soldiers on a thousand other battlefields we wait, wait for the dawn" is a direct reference to Captain Picard from the Star Trek movie "Nemesis".

"Captain's personal log, supplemental. We're heading toward Federation space at maximum warp. The crew has responded with the dedication I've come to expect of them. And like a thousand other commanders on a thousand other battlefields, I wait for the dawn."

I bet you guys didn't know Rody was a 'Trekkie' Lol xD... The funnier part is that there's more Star Trek references throughout the album. "Dunsel" for example is a Star Trek word for a tool or part of the ship that is useless. LMFAO.

Ignore my stupidity. I didn't read the post where they quoted Rody mentioning Jean-Luc Picard and the other post with an actual link to the episode page.

My bad.

haha no problem. You did better than me, I just posted a link lol.

A few corrections, according to the lyric book:

-Kev's hair just keeps falling out: Cam's hair just keeps falling out

-What matters the most is the backdrop ghost circling your floating corpse at the end of the haunt: What matters the most is that bad joke ghost circling your bloated corpse at the end of the haunt

-Never forming pleasantry: Kneel before me peasantry. (Also makes more sense when you consider this line: Pledge your allegiance to the fucking swamp king).

If anyone can figure out what Rody is saying at the ???'s please comment! Also if I got something wrong, let me know. I'm pretty sure he's not saying "Palace of the swarm" but that's the closest thing I could hear.

-"Because when the sun goes down, it's BOTTLES up" -"palace of the swarm" = "palace on a swamp"

Corrected. Thanks =D

I think "bottles" is actually supposed to be "bottoms."

Pledge your allegiance to the fucking ???

So far I've been comprehending at as "Pledge your allegiance to the fucking SLUTBAG"

That's what my friend was saying as well, and it does sound somewhat like that, but I wasn't sure. i guess it's better than ??? lol

you should change it for now, we got a while before the songbook comes out :/

oh nvm you did!

Alright from what I hear in the first part it is definitely bottoms up. I take it you must not be a drinker if you've never heard that phrase. It means the bottom of the cup or bottle going up as you drink. The ??? part is "never forming pleasantries". The next part could be swamp king but i think its something other than king. Lastly, the dumb as you all get out I think is "damned as you all get out" but I could be wrong. Nevertheless this album is fuckin awesome.

Lyric Correction

Actually "never forming pleasantry" and your right it is definitely dumb as all get out.

You`re pretty much right. except it is pleasentry.

Fixed, guys. Thanks.

I can be totally wrong and after reading the lyrics and the song is pretty much about futility and wasting your life, I still hear

"Cancer just keep falling out and Christians keep getting fatter" lol

Futility can be epic, PTH just proved that to me with their best song to this day.

No, it definitely doesn't say that. Listen closely to that line. when he says, "Keeps getting fatter", "Keeps" has a clear "S" sound, which would not fit into your interpretation.

i thought it was christians too but i do here the plural possessive "s"

That and Rody generally doesn't write about religion, to which I'm glad, being Christian.

Well, now that we have most of the lyrics 90% dead on, (I hope), we can begin to interpret this monster.

I think it's pretty simple, actually, being Rody is talking about how people just waste their lives by getting drunk and doing stupid shit. And then how sometimes they'll end up in a REALLY bad situation that ultimately makes them decide to turn away from the lifestyle, I.E the "Knife right through your heart/exactly what you need" line.

I think it also talks about the pettiness of our common concerns, "Kev's hair just keeps falling out/Chris just keeps getting fatter/none of that shit really matters". Then it goes on to say that the only thing that matters is the "Backdrop ghost circling your floating corpse at the end of the haunt". Perhaps backdrop ghost is a metaphor for self-reflection, or the memory of the people in your lives of how your choices affected you and the people around you in such a negative way.

That's just my two cents. =D

My Interpretation

The songs on Scurrilous seem to be a mixture of metaphors and just simple lyrics about every day life.

I agree, much more simple to interpret than Fortress and Kezia.

This is an amazing interpratation. Thank you for this.

And to synthesizernerd, I realized the same thing. This album is much more reality-focused than the previous two. Still a great cd though.

What matters the most is the backdrop ghost circling your floating corpse at the end of the haunt
