Northern Wind Lyrics
Sending shivers down my spine
You're like fallen leaves
In an autumn night
Singing me to sleep
You are the other half
You're like a missing piece
Oh my love
Oh my love
You don't know
What you're doing to me
Rolled into one
You're like the cold december snow
In the warm July sun
Just before the rain
Like the mighty current
Pulling you under the waves
Oh my love
Oh my love
You must be tired of me
Of me
Just before the dawn
I'm slowly sinking
Into the slough of despond
Worn out and left behind
I have stories still to tell
Of the healing kind
Oh my love
Oh my love
If i could just find you tonight
If i could just find you tonight
Oh my love
There is another line after " I am slowly sinking " it is:
"into the the slough of despond"
Which is a reference to the book A Pilgrim's Progress

Love this song. This record is going to be great.
This song is pretty obvious, it's about his love. I feel like he's talking about how he's not worth her because he's such a dark person. It's also talking about how she's always there for him. I love this song First time I heard it it made me cry. I'm so pumped for Little Hell to come out! June 7th 2011 <3
This was one of my favorite songs off his new album. As I was listening, I couldn't tell whether he was mistreating his lover or vice versa. UNTIL, I read an interview where he gave the meaning behind it, and I fell even more in love with the song and how honest it is, that one person is always putting forth more effort in to a relationship, even if they both love each other.

Dallas Green: "I had written a lot… almost all of the songs I think…. and my wife told me I had to write another love song. And I said, “I don’t really feel like writing a love song right now.” And she said, “Your fans, they love the love songs.” And I said I wasn’t going to write one just to write one and then I started thinking about the idea behind those relationships where one person is so unbelievably in love with the other but the other person is also in love but they know that there’s something wrong with them. They know that they’re not giving it their all and they’re bringing the other person down in a way. That’s kind of what that song is about. It’s kind of hard to explain but I think if you listen to the song you totally get it."
What I love about this song, is the atmosphere of silence, or the sense of space throughout it - how he phrases the lyrics unhurriedly, the gambolling easy way he strums the guitar - there are brief, brief pauses which allow the bittersweetness of this tune to really settle in.
Later in the melody, the 'cello joins in for brief measures, pausing then returning to play, which at times create these momentary, but sweet harmonies with his chording on the guitar. I love the richness and the simplicity of this tune - the ebb and flow of feeling.
