Sinful Lyrics

I lost my spine inside the center of a star
And every day I wonder where the bad bones are
You die an ugly day if you hit and miss
I know my own grand daddy worked so hard for this

[Chorus] It seems so simple living like a porcupine
I know you're dreaming of the time that you were mine
It seems so sinful, It seems so sinful, ooooh...

You kick me out and hung my rope down from the roof
The Christians came out and watched me tie my noose
I spoke a silent prayer, they began crying
They knew I'd applied to hell and they knew I got in

[Chorus x 1]

It seems so simple now, uuuh
It seems so sinful, uuuh [repeat]

I don't know who's the idiot who invented these Lyrics, they're COMPLETELY wrong. Here are the right ones:

SINFUL by Marina & the Diamonds

I lost my spine inside the center of a star And every day I wonder where the bad bones are You die an ugly day if you hit and miss I know my own grand daddy worked so hard for this

[Chorus] It seems so simple living like a porcupine I know you're dreaming of the time that you were mine It seems so sinful, It seems so sinful, ooooh...

You kick me out and hung my rope down from the roof The Christians came out and watched me tie my noose I spoke a silent prayer, they began crying They knew I'd applied to hell and they knew I got in

[Chorus x 1]

It seems so simple now, uuuh It seems so sinful, uuuh [repeat]

Trolol thanks! I was like 'wait, is this the right song?' thanks for the lyrics :D

In my opinion, this entire song is abt the guilt that comes with depression and suicidal thoughts. The section abt “dying an ugly day if you hit and miss” reflects the origin of suicidal thoughts, which is oftentimes one’s mistakes and struggles in their past. The line about her “own grand daddy” seems to be the singer reflecting on how hard their family worked to get them where they are, and likely implies a feeling of guilt they have for not living up to what was given to them. The lines about being kicked out shows more of this familial guilt, and having the rope tied around the singer’s neck is pretty self-explanatory. The line about the Christians knowing she “applied to hell” seems to refer to how religions often consider suicide the ultimate sin, explaining why the Christians are begging her to stop. Additionally, the line of the chorus about “living like a porcupine”, which in another version of the song is followed by “You live your whole life living underneath your spines”, seems to show the guilt that comes with pushing away your loved ones as a result of your struggles with mental health, and the line about “dreaming about the time when you were mine” seems to show these loved ones wishing they could be closer to the singer struggling alone.
