Elysium Lyrics

[Lyrics By Matias Kupiainen and Timo Kotipelto. Music by Matias Kupiainen]

[Part 1]

I've never felt like this before
Am I awake? Am I drifting?
There's a hole in the sky
Am I alive? Did I survive?

Broken pictures on my wall
A story of fallen heroes
Now stare ahead with their blind eyes on
Lost horizon

Sometimes the traces of life with you
Are clearer in my mind than ever
I'm reaching this feeling
It's misleading me away from you

Tonight I'll find what I've been searching for
You can rip off my wings once more
I'm not afraid anymore
I'm not afraid anymore

[Solo - Matias / Jens] 3:00-3:57

Sometimes the traces of life with you
Are clearer in my mind than ever
I'm reaching this feeling
It's misleading me away from you

Tonight I'll find what I've been searching for
You can rip off my wings once more
I'm not afraid anymore
I am ready to fall
I'm not afraid anymore

[Part 2] 5:10

I am lying on the frozen ground alone
I've got lost on my way, my time is up
I'm done

I need to find the key
To eternal life and see
The joy, the smile,
The overwhelming love of your heart
Is what I need

Give me a sign, and show me the way
To the sacred place

I can hear you calling my name
From the distant skies
I am holding a falling angel
In my arms

Your shadow lurking in the corner of my eye
I'm losing sense of what's real
and what's a lie

I need to find the key
To eternal life and see
The joy, the smile,
The overwhelming love of your heart
Is what I need

Give me a sign, and show me the way
To the sacred place

I can hear you calling my name
From the distant skies
I am holding a falling angel
In my arms

How all began?
Your faith was not mine
Remedy this fallen life

I feel it burning with me ahead
The earth is turning to red
I'm staring at the flaming skies
Too tired to figth, I just close my eyes

[Solo - Jens / Matias / Duet] 9:27-10:25

I can hear you calling my name
From the distant skies
I am holding a falling angel
In my arms

I am holding a falling angel
in my arms

[Part 3] 11:27

This life has been too long
There's hope everywhere I go

Do you believe in hope and faith
Or eternity?
In the end, you will see
Let this soul be free

Eternal light
Blinded my eyes

Feel no sorrow
Joy will follow
Now lay down
And rest in my arms

[Solo - Jens] 14:33-15:28

Do you believe in hope and faith
Or eternity?
In the end, you will see
Let your soul be free

Be afraid no more,
Just take my hand,
I'll guide you through the storm
We're finally home

Do you believe in hope and faith
Or eternity?
In the end, you will see
Let your soul be free

Be afraid no more,
Just take my hand,
I'll guide you through the storm
We're finally home

We're finally home

[Solo - Matias] 16:50

My belief is that the song's meanings are broken into three parts. The first one I think is about a soldier dying on the battlefield, ready to go. The broken picture on his wall could be his family who were all soldiers and died in war. The second part I'm pretty sure is that's dead and lost within...something, but he got lost on his way to Elysium, which is a place that heroic souls go after they die (from Greek mythology). As for the third part, I can't decipher it.

My Interpretation

The first part is indeed about death after a full honest service on a battlefield, to the very end.

The second part is about the transition, during which this brave soul asks for guidance to cope with these new feelings at the gates of afterlife.

The third part is all about the feeling of acceptance for this brave honest soul to join the Elysium, to return back to home, finally.

My references: I'm a Finn.

I guess it's about someone who lost the one he loved, the sense of loss he felt, how she became suddenly one more of the people in pictures, and how he had to move on while always being ready to reunite with her. I think that Icarus' myth may have been used as a reference for this song. I'm saying "he" and "she" just as an example ^^. Well, after a period of time it seems that his hour has also come, but now he doesn't see death as before, he believes now that his spirit will trascend, as she believed, and will reunite with her in the eternal life, where she's calling him from.

Is it a continuation of the previos song of the Album? Event Horizon

@D4V1D In fact, mine wasn't a good interpretation. The song is more like about a fallen soldier who sends his love to his beloved before dying.

I see the first part of the song like a moment of confusion in the battle. The soldier doesn't know what's happening, but finally realizes that he is going to die and he faces it bravely: "I'm not afraid anymore / I am ready to fall"

In the second part it seems like he is sending his thoughts to her beloved just before dying (is she alive?...
