Tim said this was written for his friends' baby in utero, saying to it that while the world is messed up and life can be hard, the baby is a miracle and can be hope for the world. Beautiful song - I wish I was the kid it was written for! haha
Just saw these guys in concert on their tour for their new album, they are amazing! Such a great song, no comments yet.

Saw them play this album for the first time live, February 16th (2011 for all you future folks) Waited 3 years to finally see them live. Was so worth the wait.
ANYWAYS: They opened with this song (Downstairs being the intro to the concert) and it was pure win.
Also: the band title that this is under, is wrong. It's "Hey Rosetta!" with an exclamation mark.
I love this song. I think it's brilliantly written. To me, it's about having a child and looking at the innocence of a baby that will undoubtedly be tested and tarnished with the hardships of life. And telling that baby that it's ok, it's the way it's supposed to be. The person saying this has gone through that and the only way to feel that sweet innocence again is to see yourself through the eyes of a child.

oh- and the part 'i'm so glad you've come alone' is slowed down perfectly and just sang so lovely. Great song!
I'm not from a broken family, but this whole song makes me only think of that. A father singing to his daughter about everything she is to him, and regretful about life's harsh realities and apologetic about the world he's brining her into. He apologizes for the crummy apartment he has when she's over at his place. He tells her to forget the happy times they had as a family in the past--that's over. "Fear and greed" are the simple reasons behind the destruction of marriages. But all in all, he wants her to know that he loves her more than anything in the world.
As a side note, I have no idea why I'm interpreting this song as if the subject were a girl instead of a boy, since the lyrics don't indicate gender. Maybe the band's name subconsciously influenced me into thinking "rosetta" had something to do with the subject of the song.
