Always Something Lyrics
Early in the morning
Rise to meet the sun
Work so hard to feed your wife
No time to show her love.
And in the madness in the evening
With diamonds in your hand
Came home an hour early
Caught her with another man
It's always something before the late night
Around the corner, there's always something waiting for you
Can't hold their hands back, can't make the sun rise
It's always something, you know it's always something
On your way back home again
A good Samaritan
You see a man stuck in the rain, stranded with no friends
And from the goodness of your heart, you save him from the flood
A couple miles down the road, he's covered in his blood
It's always something before the late night
Around the corner, there's always something waiting for you
Can't hold their hands back, can't make the sun rise
It's always something, you know it's always something
Moving around, you never see it coming
Burnt by the light, you thought that you were running
Blinded again, you're floating like a feather
Why can't you see you can't control the weather?
Sometimes I caught myself looking in the mirror
With my eyeballs out, and I'm looking at the fear
In the bottom of the trees, saw it growing like a plant
But it never worked out the way I wrote it in my hand
You tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried
You tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried
(It's always something)
You tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried, you tried
(It's always something)
It's always something before the late night
Around the corner, there's always something waiting for you
Can't hold their hands back, can't make the sun rise
It's always something, you know it's always something
You know it's always something, you know it's always something
Rise to meet the sun
Work so hard to feed your wife
No time to show her love.
And in the madness in the evening
With diamonds in your hand
Came home an hour early
Caught her with another man
Around the corner, there's always something waiting for you

Clearly a pessimistic view of things; no matter how much good you do, something always is gonna turn around and bite you on the ass.
Love this new album.
He sings about what he genuinely believes in and I completely love that about Matt. This song is haunting my brain.
This song is deliciously pessimistic. Its not depressing or a downer, its sounds more frustrated to me. I feel like this a lot, and here the singer is just venting about it. He points out that sometimes there are just things out of your control "can't make the sun rise," references to weather, etc.
This song has one of the most paranoid sounds to it...you gotta love the direction the band took with this album.
This song is obviously a pessimistic view on how life never goes the way you want it to, and no matter how hard you try to change things, no matter how good life is going at the moment, something else will always step in the way and ruin it.
This song is pretty similar to Hopeless Opus by Imagine Dragons. This song is a bit more dark, however, blaming fate for everything that goes wrong, whereas Hopeless Opus is mostly blaming themselves for ruining their own lives, though fate does take part in it. In other words, Hopeless Opus is more regretful than pessimistic.
Couldn't of said it better myself, Pete.
One of the best songs on the new album.
This song couldn't be more upfront about the performer's disdain for human nature. Despite it's pessimistic thee this song is not to be missed.

@niacita "in the bottom of the trees saw it growing like a plant" and then "you tried" sixteen times while "it's always something" is sung in the background twice after the first eight times

I just wanted to point out the second verse. "You save him from the flood - a couple miles down the road, he's covered in your blood." This is talking about offering a homeless man a ride because you feel bad and want to help him. Then, after generously inviting him into your car, after driving a few miles he kills you, hence the line, "covered in your blood." It is a good message of not hitchhiking.
I really wish they didn't put songs like this on the album. The lame murder ballad lyric part is infantile. I feel these guys have promise, but this is a horrible opening track, and lyrically it's pathetic.
