One Special Gift Lyrics
After we've spent all the money
On nieces and nephews
And a couple of friends
There'll be just enough left
For one special gift
For one special gift
For one special guest
On nieces and nephews
And a couple of friends
For one special gift
For one special gift

Simple little song that points beyond the consumerism of the season to the "one special guest" in whom we hope.
On one level, you could read this song as a sweet love song, about saving a little money to buy one special gift for your special someone. But in the context of this album it means much more. Think about "Just Like Christmas," and especially the challenging "If You Were Born Today," which both work to subvert our cheap, easy holiday cheer and point beyond it to something greater.
I think the key to this song is the "all the money" in the first line. All the money is gone. Who is this special guest, to whom we can give "one special gift" that doesn't cost any money?
