Dakota Lyrics

Light shines off rivers, flowing through
Every part of me, wanting every part of you
Soft and simple veins make a stain and find a drain
If I was the one, maybe I could feel your pain

And the water blows while the night is on fire
I patiently wait like a bird on a wire

Your dreams are made of
Fear while sleep surrounds us
Tunnels changing lanes, over sunrise,
All your pain inside a schoolbus

Summer, fall, October ends,
Shadows out and in
The winter won't pretend,
Though I know I'll see you again
The wind blows you and me,
Kitchen teardrops and the leaves
Oh I don't believe
That every night I feel you breathe

And the tension boils like sailors close to home
Time is black but you soon will be alone

Fate does tempt itself like a
Game of a cat and mouse it soon will find us
And anything we need God knows
The devil could proceed in denying us

Cover art for Dakota lyrics by Robert Francis

This song is so beautiful as a whole, its difficult to focus on the lyrics. There seems to be references to seasons, dreams and temptation in this song. I've noticed he has made recurring references to school days in a lot of his songs. In this song, he makes a reference to a schoolbus... In Mescaline, he also makes a reference to school when he says "you shoot up, then you go to class. Its funny how nobody asks. Cuz all your teachers love you..." In Little Girl, he makes a subtle reference to his "little girl" being too young and to smart... I dont know. I love this man though!
