Stay the Night Lyrics
I haven't got much time, so I'll get to the point
Do you wanna share a ride and get the fuck out of this joint?
I've got an impulse so impulsive that it burns
I wanna break your heart until it makes your stomach churn
I gotta know if you're the one that got away
Even though it was never meant to be
So stay, stay the night
'Cause we're running out of time
So stay the night
I don't wanna say goodbye
Stay, stay the night
'Cause we're running out of time
So, stay the night
I don't wanna say goodbye
I'm just sick and tired of feeling so alone
Well, I don't understand the point if you got to go home
Why won't you stay and cure the circles around my eyes
And we can watch the stars until the sun begins to rise
I gotta know if you're the one that got away
Even though it was never meant to be
So stay, stay the night
'Cause we're running out of time
So, stay the night
I don't wanna say goodbye
Stay, stay the night
'Cause we're running out of time
So, stay the night
I don't wanna say goodbye
Do you wanna share a ride and get the fuck out of this joint?
I've got an impulse so impulsive that it burns
I wanna break your heart until it makes your stomach churn
Even though it was never meant to be
'Cause we're running out of time
So stay the night
I don't wanna say goodbye
Stay, stay the night
'Cause we're running out of time
So, stay the night
I don't wanna say goodbye
Well, I don't understand the point if you got to go home
Why won't you stay and cure the circles around my eyes
And we can watch the stars until the sun begins to rise
Even though it was never meant to be
'Cause we're running out of time
So, stay the night
I don't wanna say goodbye
Stay, stay the night
'Cause we're running out of time
So, stay the night
I don't wanna say goodbye

They both know the relationship cannot last and they are incompatible, but for a short while it cures their loneliness- that's what this song's about. :]
Does it seem like the lyrics are reflective of the emotions and memories that are portrayed in the lyrics to "Haushinka" and "Whatsername"?
"I gotta know if you're the one that got away Even though it was never meant to be"
The above lyrics seem to piece with the following lyrics from the two other Green Day songs:
"Did she know, did she know, before she went away, does she know? But it's too damn late This girl has gone far away. Now she's gone." ("Haushinka")
"Seems that she disappeared with out a trace [and the entire song is about wondering about her]" ("Whatsername")
There seems to be this related lingering feeling of "What if...?" in some of these songs.
There's always that ONE person in our life where we can't help but wonder if things had gone differently because they've made so much of an impression on you...
It would make sense that these songs are related, but who knows for sure.
You can add 'Amanda' from !Tre! to that list as well, which is probably the most blatant 'what if' song that Billie has written. He really does seem to write a lot about this girl. Apparently 'She' Is about the same girl too.

I wanna say that this sing is about meeting a girl at some place and wanting her to stay the night of course, but the line "I gotta know if you're the one that got away Even though it was never meant to be" confuses me because he's married and everything.
I think that "I got an impulse so impulsive that it burns" should be "I got an impulse so repulsive that it burns". Think that's the only correction.
Been playing this song on loop for the past three days.
Agree with the above comments, but in terms of style, this is Green Day mellowing gracefully. Something about this song makes me think of a glorious summer's day, but just as the sun is beginning to set and grow that orange tinge...much like the band I guess, having shone during those punk 90s albums and the socio-political commentary of the naughties, now slipping into cruise control and celebrating all that's been and gone...
...or maybe that's all in my head, haha. Fuck it, I love Green Day and I love this song.
