Platform Fire Lyrics

Tore up like your baby blue jeans
I was stepping through a fog
Under pressure, but I'm feeling weightless
Can't let heaven's pin-striped shooting
Leave you carrying a cross
Across the desert when you're feeling faithless
After all, this phase is only temporary
Laughter falls on deaf ears in the auditorium

Stories stacked up so tall
And you don't talk me down
You'll talk me through
Bright lights, this platform fire
I'm a man on a wire
You're here for the view

Scattered in the mist, I'm moving
It's getting hard for you to watch
You're under pressure when I'm feeling weightless
Up where tensions aren't computing
Where I've never fallen off
At least I'd like to think that your worry's wasted
Worry's wasted on me
After all, this phase may not be temporary
We hit the wall
And met me in the auditorium

Stories stacked up so tall
And you don't talk me down
You'll talk me through
Bright lights, our platform fire
I'm a man on a wire
You're here for the view
I'm a man on a wire
You're here for the view
I'm a man on a wire
You're here for the view

So tell me what you think
When you see me there
Tell me what you see
When the smoke is clear

Tore up like your baby blue jeans
I was stepping through a fog

Stories stacked up so tall
And you don't talk me down
You'll talk me through
Yeah just like you always do
Bright lights, our platform fire
I'm a man on a wire
You're here for the view
I'm a man on a wire
You're here for the view

Bright lights, this platform fire
I'm a man on a wire
You'll talk me through

wow first comment that's effing awesome! i just heard this song (live, ugh) but it was pretty good quality and i think it's my new favorite jack's song, it's SO good. i'm just going to say it: this song is about leukemia? i think? or maybe he's going through a tough time...idk. maybe someone else is also going through an adversity and he/she told him all about it and he did vice versa and maybe they're talking each other through? i have no idea but it's a beautiful song. i love love love it.

that line is so beautiful--there's no other word for it, i'm serious. i love andrew mcmahon

At a concert, Andrew said the first line of this song was supposed to be "Smokin' California Blue Dream" (a strain of weed), so I'd say this song is at least partially about the influence of drugs. I'm also pretty sure the lyrics are "this haze is only temporary," which has to be a reference to weed. IMO it's about doing concerts and stuff blazed while still feeling the pressure of performing well.

so good. i think its about him going through something hard, and he's relying on having someone to comfort him, but they're not as involved as he wants them to be or not as there for his as they used to be. like theyre watching him struggle but cant really help
