The Mapmaker Lyrics

Listen, to the sound
The sound of an angry ocean below
And, look above
The skies open up
The waves begin to groan
They say, "It’s nothing personal
It’s what's been decided for you
It is what has to be.

If you aren't so easily swayed
I'll make my peace
And sink beneath the waves
Until it all fades away to hues
And shades of blues and grays

In this cold
Frigid and oh so lonely
I'm slowly moving toward
The center of a hostile world
Unexplored and in need of
More men like me to uncover
What lies at its ends

All I ever needed was one more day
I feel so disconnected
So strangely warm
So strangely calm

The band stated that the song, and the entire album for that matter, was about a dream of a life of a sailor in the late 1400's early 1500's traveling to what is today America. "Listen, to the sound The sound of an angry ocean below And, look above The skies open up The waves begin to groan" Describing what it's like to be on a ship in hostile seas.

In need of more men like him, he believes they are outnumbered, and more men can cover more ground.

"All I ever needed was one more day I feel so disconnected So strangely warm So strangely calm"

With every day he gets closer to something he desires "I fell so disconnected" He and his fellow explorers are all alone and have no way of returning to Europe. So strangely warm So strangely calm He is warmed in the fact there is no other place he would rather be. Calm in the fact that he can start a new life again.
