I Still Believe Lyrics

Hear ye, hear ye, friends and Romans, countrymen.
Hear ye, hear ye, punks and skins and journeymen
Hear ye, hear ye, my sisters and my bretheren.
The time is coming near.

Come ye, come ye, to soulless corporate circus tops.
Come ye, come ye, to toilet circuit touring snobs.
Come ye, come ye, to bedrooms, bars and bunker squats.
The sound is ringing clear.

Now who'd have thought that after all,
Something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all.
And who'd have thought that after all, it was rock 'n' roll.

Hear ye, hear ye, now anybody could take this stage.
Hear ye, hear ye, and make miracles for minimum wage.
Hear ye, hear ye, these folk songs for the modern age,
Will hold us in their arms.

Right here, right now, Elvis brings his children home.
Right here, right now, you never have to feel alone.
Right here, right now, teenage kicks and gramophones.
We hold them in our hearts.

Now who'd have thought that after all,
Something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all.
And who'd have thought that after all, it was rock 'n' roll.

And I still believe (I still believe) in the saints.
Yeah, in Jerry Lee and in Johnny and all the greats.

And I still believe (I still believe) in the sound,
That has the power to raise a temple and tear it down.

And I still believe (I still believe) in the need,
For guitars and drums and desperate poetry.

And I still believe (I still believe) that everyone,
Can find a song for every time they've lost and everytime they've won.

So just remember folks we not just saving lives, we're saving souls,
And we're having fun.

And I still believe.

Now who'd have thought that after all,
Something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all.

Now who'd have thought that after all,
Something so simple, something so small.
Who'd have thought that after all it's rock 'n' roll?

I just, I only just found this song today and I just think it's so beautiful. Because a lot of the time I have trouble expressing to people why rock and roll is so wonderful, why no matter what I listen to I always compare it to rock and roll; to Dylan, to Cash, to Lennon. And it's because real rock and roll, real honest to God fucking rock and roll has the most heart out of any music. Real music can save someone's soul. I've thought that for years now, and the fact that Frank Turner understands that makes me so unbelievably happy. Fantastic song, every word is Goddamn true and I'm so happy this exists.

He's referring to Johnny Lee Lewis...not John Lennon who is a well documented serial woman beater.

But aside from that; I'm with you.

Just posted a bio for Turner (that I grabbed, with attribution, from the site of a venue he'll play soon), and included this link to Turner and his band the Sleeping Souls' September 20, 2012 appearance on Conan O'Brien playing this song - This is one of the best performances by a band on a talk show I've ever seen. http://teamcoco.com/video/frank-turner-i-still-believe-09/20/12

Whenever I hear this it reminds of Kurt Cobain. David Fricke wrote in a booklet story of a Nirvana CD: "The gaping hole he left in the belief the rock & roll saves lives is still there." Also the german rapper Casper refers to this in one of his songs.
