Getting Old Lyrics
When we were younger
Time was under careful lock and key
Now it's open, tipped and pouring out all over me
Oh, what a shame about our days, you exclaimed
I thought you had meant they were long
Not 'til a night when I'd turned 25
I saw that I had it all wrong
I was getting tired of letting all my hours pass
Hoping someday, somehow, someway, everything would last
Oh, what a shame when I look at your frame
I know someday it will be dust
Not that I thought it's that close, 'cause it's not
But I guess it's just creeping up
Oh, and it's not that bad
It's all just time we've had
Things that could be became history
We'll never know instead.
Oh, we're not too far gone
It hasn't been that long
Oh, our empty cup is getting filled up
So we'll never have to dread
Getting old
Oh, but it's not that bad
It's all just time we've had
Of things that could be became history
We'll never know instead
Oh, we're not too far gone
It hasn't been that long
Oh, our empty cup is getting filled up
So we'll never have to dread
Getting old, getting old, getting old, getting old
Time was under careful lock and key
Now it's open, tipped and pouring out all over me
Oh, what a shame about our days, you exclaimed
I thought you had meant they were long
Not 'til a night when I'd turned 25
I saw that I had it all wrong
Hoping someday, somehow, someway, everything would last
Oh, what a shame when I look at your frame
I know someday it will be dust
Not that I thought it's that close, 'cause it's not
But I guess it's just creeping up
It's all just time we've had
Things that could be became history
We'll never know instead.
Oh, we're not too far gone
It hasn't been that long
Oh, our empty cup is getting filled up
So we'll never have to dread
Getting old
It's all just time we've had
Of things that could be became history
We'll never know instead
Oh, we're not too far gone
It hasn't been that long
Oh, our empty cup is getting filled up
So we'll never have to dread
Getting old, getting old, getting old, getting old

"this song is about getting old. there was a time when i didn't think at all about how quickly days just fly by. but then all the sudden its like time springs a leak and it starts gushing out all out of control and crazy and you're scrambling to catch up with it. but the good news about days passing is that they turn into memories instead of disappearing entirely. every day spent is like money in the lifetime-experience bank. its sort of a theme thats all over this record, making the most of your time, and sort of crazy cause its really what the band name hellogoodbye means (the whole saved by the bell rumor thing is just wikipedia wildfire!)"
Here's my take on it.
"When we were younger time was under careful lock and key. Now it's open, tipped and pourin' out all over me. Oh! what a shame, that our days, you explained, I thought you had meant they were long Not 'till the night when I turned 25, I saw that I had it all wrong
I was gettin' tired of lettin' all my hours pass Hopin' someday soon or somewhere everything would last Oh! what a shame, when I look at your frame, I know someday it will be dust Not that the thought is that close, 'cause it's not but, I guess it's just creepin' up.
Oh and it's not that bad, it's all this time we've had Things that could be, became mystery, we'll never know instead. Oh we're not too far gone, it hasn't been that long Oh and our empty tea cup, is getting filled up. So we'll never have to dread getting old.
Oh oh ohh's
Oh but it's not that bad, it's all this time we've had The things that could be, became mystery, we'll never know instead. Oh we're not too far gone, it hasn't been that long Oh and our tea cup, is getting filled up. So we'll never have to dread getting old Getting old, getting old, getting old! "
