The Story of Us

The song can be applied to loads of situations. For all you know, it could be about Joe, Taylor, John, anybody really. Personally, I think it tells the story of how a girl thought she was getting somewhere with a boy, but then it never happened, 'a simple complication, miscommunication' suggests that something tiny went wrong along the line that led to a fall out. Its not a particularly recognised situation, but I bet its really common! She just wants to sort it out, and its so horrible when you're being avoided, and when you're not speaking to somebody. I love how much I can relate to it, its a brilliant song.

Here's my take on it. Sadly, this has happened to me which is why I can relate to this song.

Girl meets boy. Both are sort of dating, but then all of a sudden, the boy doesn't talk to her anymore. She's confused because she's interested still. Him, however, continues to ignore her. She starts to understand that he's not really interested and that perhaps he was playing her all along. Anyway, this is simply a break up song.

Actually it's another one about john mayer. He was at the 2010 cmt awards, which was in June. She said this was the last one she added to the album so it make sense.

Love this song .x It was written about Joe Jonas and how awkward it was when Tay bumped into him at the 2009 CMT awards and was seated only a few seats away from him.x

I think anyone can easily relate to this song. In my opinion, its about a girl that really wants to know what her crush thinks of her. She always kind of knew he liked her, but she couldn't find a way to ask him to confirm it. It makes me think of middle school and elementary school when a lot of people are shy about "liking someone" or 'having a crush.' I also think she got her hopes up and now "it looks a lot like a tragedy ..."

It's so obvious it's about John. I'm a big big big fan of John's & once I heard this song, it got me thinking about the line "The battle's in your hands now, but I would lay my armor down if you say you'd rather love than fight."

Is it just me or does this sorta sound like a reply to John Mayers lyrics in Heartbreak Warfare? "I swear to God we're going to get it right, If you lay your weapon down."

It's a good song none the less.

Couple of things pointing to this being about John Mayer...

Story of Us: "So many walls up, I can't break through." Heartbreak Warfare: "God only knows how much I'd love you if you let me / But I can't break through it all"

Story of Us: "The battle's in your hands now, but I would lay my armor down if you say / you'd rather love than fight." Heartbreak Warfare: "I swear to God we're gonna get it right / if you lay your weapon down"

And, to me "Now I'm standing alone in a crowded room" sounds very similar to "My dear we're slow dancing in a burning room"

Just my take

I'm having this situation right now, but in a friendship problem way. I have a friend who I am currently ignoring. So far I've done that for a month and I have a feeling she thinks its awkward around me. So now we are both awkward around each other.

For the first two verses, its saying how we were so close before. Like we could never part. I was with her all the time then now we are very far apart.

The pre-chorus is saying how we both misunderstood things in our situation. I want to tell her so many things but its hard to talk to her.

The chorus is saying is still saying how its so awkward between us. We've been ignoring each other and its really starting to kill me that she's not talking to me. I wonder if she feels the same. I guess our twist of fate was our incident and it ruined the friendship.

The next verse after that is saying how she's avoiding me and I try to pretend that she's not there at all. Yet again, it is very awkward. I want to tell her that we should apologize to each other and forget all what happened but I really don't know how. We are both ignoring each other, so the silence just kills me.

The bridge is saying how it seems as if we don't care about each other, just being careless about each other. I really miss our strong friendship. When I let down my wall of ignoring, I hope she would too. Not only I wish she knew some things, but I have a feeling she would too. But it feels like our friendship is fully gone.

Hopefully it isn't.

This is just my opinion and the way I relate to it :)

This could be a stretch, but i think "The battle's in your hands now, but I would lay my armor down if you say you'd rather love than fight." is an allusion to heartbreak warfare.

I've heard it was about Lautner, though. That makes more sense because this was the last song she wrote for the album, I believe.
