i usually think of songs as tending to have a lot of different aspects, and many layers of meaning to them... but i think that's because of how i write and also the way that i relate to other writing. simply touching on the very basic, surface "theme" here, though, i've personally never thought of suicide. i think it's more along the lines of drug use/abuse.

I'm not sure, but where you have "I was terrified" the lyrics may actually be "I was tired of the fight".
I like the thought that she may have purposely sung that line in a way that says both, if that makes sense.

At first i thought it was about drug abuse but if you keep hearing the lines over and over you come across the lines "Said you wanted to then kissed the gun" and it' an object she's talking about that he has "Hide it from me if you must" she doesn't want to see the gun at all she can't stand him wanting to end his life. She did struggle with a person who had drug issues but it is interwoven for her person struggles and alludes to a desire for suicide but i think in a song from a NYC TAPES website she opens up about how she would have killed herself in Tennessee if it wasn't for her other friend. Love this girls voice.
