The Poet Lyrics
As I get long gone
Out where the wind blows
The desert sky she flies by for miles
As I keep walkin, people keep talking
About things they never seen or done
Homeless sleep in the park
Sweethearts kiss in the dark
I myself just move on through town
The moon keeps on shinin
The rich keep on dinin
Oh how I love the highway sun
Out to the back,
Poet writes his songs in blood
Coyotes are callin
The stars keep on fallin
Your mother, she won’t be around
A feather blows down the road
The wind is cold and your wings are broke
And your heart, is livin on the run
Lonely and wasted her eyes replaced it
I don’t think I make another mile
From town to town I run
When my horse ain't to drunk
The wind is singin to the sun
Out to the back,
Poet writes his songs in blood
Jukebox is barkin
I’m just getting started
I’ve yet to see the light of day
Senoritas lose it to mariachi music
Cause New York’s to far away
The band keeps on playin
With beer bottles breakin
The barmaid I heard she pulled a gun
Poet takes a pistol, points at his sister
Says ‘honey your day is done’
Out to the back
The poet writes his songs in blood
Out to the back
The poet writes his songs in blood
Out where the wind blows
The desert sky she flies by for miles
As I keep walkin, people keep talking
About things they never seen or done

I love this song but the lyrics are weak. "Out to the back" isn't descriptive. "After the fight" or "After the pipe" or something else is better. How does the poet pull a pistol on his sister when he is sitting out back? How does he know the barmaid's pulled a gun? Why does the barmaid pull a gun just before the poet pulls a gun? Is the barmaid the poet?
And "how I love the highway sun" should be "how I love the highway song", anyone who has spent much time on the road knows the highway song, but the sun on the highway is just the same as the sun on Manhattan.
And "my horse ain't too drunk?" wtf? That's just filling in a sound rather than a meaning.Make the horse a harley and then "Out on the bike the poet writes his song in blood" - anyone who has laid down a harley on the highway knows that blood very well.
Anyone care to sharpen up Ryan's lyrics?
