Somebody To Love Me Lyrics
I don't wanna see you go,
I want somebody to love me,
Why'd it take so long to know?
I want somebody to love me,
I want somebody to be nice,
See the boy, I once was in my eyes,
Nobody's gonna save my life
We are wicked men,
Looking for our buckles to loosen,
By the count of ten,
I wanna see somebody human,
And I lost what it was, in the teenage dust of a downtown Romeo,
In a couple of weeks, you can tell all the freaks, how you carried my body home
But tonight, I crossed the line,
Dear Mr Lonely, how much do they know me?
I could find lessons in life,
But, once you've earned it, you've already burned it
I don't wanna see you go,
I need somebody to love me,
(Need somebody, oh)
Why'd it take so long to know?
I need somebody to love me,
(Need somebody, oh)
I want somebody to be nice,
See the boy, I once was in my eyes,
Nobody's gonna save my life
Got my ticket man, and I'm looking for somebody to use it,
I know we pretend, but one of these days we're gonna lose it,
And I once left town, when the leaves turn brown,
With a couple of souvenirs,
She was in my car, when we hit that wall,
Yeah, you could of moved me to tears
But tonight, I crossed the line,
I used to know her, when my house was sober,
I could find lessons in life,
Over and over, is it really over?
I don't wanna see you go,
I need somebody to love me,
(Need somebody, oh)
Why'd it take so long to know?
I need somebody to love me,
(Need somebody, oh)
I want somebody to be nice,
See the boy, I once was in my eyes,
Nobody's gonna save my life
But tonight, I crossed the line,
I used to know her, when my house was sober,
I could find lessons in life,
Over and over, is it really over?
I don't wanna see you go,
I want somebody to love me,
(Need somebody, oh)
Why'd it take so long to know?
I want somebody to love me,
(Need somebody, oh)
Yeah, I want somebody nice,
See the boy, I once was in my eyes,
I want somebody to love me,
Why'd it take so long to know?
I want somebody to love me,
I want somebody to be nice,
See the boy, I once was in my eyes,

I think the song is abotu loneliness and isolation, wanting to fall in love with someone that will protect you but knowing that nobody else could save your life. It's also about reflection.
I love this song, hard. I reckon it's the best track on the album. It was written by Mark with Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), Cathy Dennis, Anthony Rossomondo (Dirty Pretty Things) and Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow). And features Wyatt and the legendary Boy George on vocals.
I think this song is about the feelings of loss, spontaneity, self-destruction, and need for being loved.
"We are wicked men, Looking for our buckles to loosen"
-> spontaneity, vulnerability
"By the count of ten, I wanna see somebody human"
-> sounds like a tipsy man in a party, looking for like-minded soul, someone who's spontaneous and vulnerable like he is.
"And I lost what it was, in the teenage dust of a downtown Romeo In a couple of weeks, you can tell all the freaks, how you carried my body home"
-> teenage dust = spontaneity, vulnerability; downtown Romeo = a romantic; freaks = endearing term for friends, party goers; carried my body home = taking care of a drunken friend/lover. I think it's about him having fun at a party, letting loose, being self-destructive (and possibly hooking up with random people). He assumes his lover will love him, take care of him and forgive him regardless of what he does.
"But tonight, I crossed the line, Dear Mr Lonely, how much do they know me? I could find lessons in life, But, once you've earned it, you've already burned it"
-> He's fucked up the relationship. His lover's left him. When he realizes it, it is already too late.
...
"Got my ticket man, and I'm looking for somebody to use it, I know we pretend, but one of these days we're gonna lose it"
-> looking for a lover, and sadly accepting that what he'll get are possibly flings that won't last.
"And I once left town, when the leaves turn brown, With a couple of souvenirs She was in my car, when we hit that wall, Yeah, you could of moved me to tears"
-> leaves turn brown = end of a good time; souvenirs = memories; wall = limit. He left when it got difficult, or when it was no longer fun. All that has been to him are just memories. His lover was with him through good times and bad times, even followed him when he left. However, his self-indulgent and destructive personality was causing harm to both of them. He realized that, but he didn't know how to stop himself.
"But tonight, I crossed the line, I used to know her, when my house was sober, I could find lessons in life, Over and over, is it really over?"
-> his drunken behaviour caused her to leave him. and he's trying to cope with this loss.
I think he is a mixed up little boy lost, lonely. Not sure of who he is. "We are wicked men, Looking for our buckles to loosen" He is confused sexually after losing his innocence as a teenage boy to "a back street romeo".
"But tonight, I crossed the line, I used to know her, when my house was sober, I could find lessons in life, Over and over, is it really over?"
He is drunk now and willing to love a man instead of the woman he once knew.
I am probally totally wrong but this is how I see it. I think this is why Ronson chose Boy George.
