The Fox and the Wolf (feat. Josh Scogin) Lyrics

You said you can’t get to heaven unless you get high
But there’s no word of hell on the way back down
You said it’s now or never,
You only live once

Would you be so quick to walk over to my grave?
You said you’ll never be younger than you are tonight
Now I’ve never felt weaker in all my life
You said it’s only a one off, only a line
But now it’s a circle, all of the time

(Josh Scogin of The Chariot)
Well, it’s a one man cult and he’s serving his line
It’s a “Lust For Life” but it’s a lifeless wine
He kissed her hand and then he found out her name,
It’s Death and now he can’t seem to wake
You can’t run with the foxes and yet hunt with the wolf

Tell me the truth
Are you addicted?
Tell me the truth
Are you addicted?
Tell me the truth

I think I’m losing my mind

They say the poison’s in the dosage and they must be right
Left with panic attacks and death riding our backs
It all looks so much worse on the way back down
I’m so fucked up since I hit the ground

Revive me

I think this song is about drug abuse. The lines:

"You said you can't get to heaven unless you get high But there's no word of hell on the way back down"

It's like he's saying that he enjoys the feeling he gets from the drugs, like bein in heaven. But on his way down from a trip it's like going trough hell.

"You said it's now or never, You only live once"

Maybe he thought like, "Hey, I don't live forever so whats the deal, I'm going to die anyway I might aswell just get myself high".

"Would you be so quick to walk over to my grave? You said you'll never be younger than you are tonight Now I've never felt weaker in all my life"

I think he's saying that no one is going to miss him if he dies. Maybe his drug dealer told him that the drugs would make him feel feel young again, but now that he is high he feels weak because he can't controll himself.

"You said it's only a one off, only a line But now it's a circle, all of the time"

For me this sounds like addiction. You'll start with one line (amphetamine or something) and then you'll build your way up until you are completely addicted.

"Tell me the truth Are you addicted? Tell me the truth Are you addicted? Tell me the truth"

Well atleast this backs up my point of view in the drug addiction theory.

"They say the poison's in the dosage and they must be right Left with panic attacks and death riding our backs It all looks so much worse on the way back down I'm so fucked up since I hit the ground"

Maybe his drug dealer told him that it's not dangerous if you'll use it right, but now it feels like he is going to die.

You said it's only a one off, only a line. But, now it's a circle all of the time.

I LOVE these lines. Reminds me of a line in another song, "a line allows progress, a circle does not." A line turns into a circle, a habit, an addition he cannot break out of.

Heaven and Hell are metaphors related to the figures presented in It Never Ends video.

My best bet is this song is about the drug Cocaine, or a drug perhaps. "You said it's only a one off, only a line. But, now it's a circle all of the time." Sounds like someone offered him a line of cocaine, saying it's only this once, but he got addicted? Then the lyrics later say "Are you addicted? Tell me the truth." Speaks for itself really.

This song is just... one and a half minutes of brutality!!

Anyway, the lyrics:

"You said you can't get to Heaven unless you get high. But, there's no word of Hell on the way back down."

These lines are about how, even if you're warned about drugs and their effects, you don't really know about what can go wrong until you experience it yourself.

The next lines, until "But, now it's a circle all of the time.", are all about how you are captured by the addiction. You may be naive, you want instant gratification, so you take the drug and fall to the relentless grip of addiction...

My favourite line, "You can't run with the foxes and yet hunt with the wolf." is about how you drugs expel you from society. You become tangled in the world of drugs, and you can't fight the addiction and live a normal life.

everyone thinks drugs are great and the high is amazing but they never tell you how shitty you feel during the comedown when the high wears off

"You said it's only a one off, only a line. But, now it's a circle all of the time."

he was offered drugs and told itd just be a one time thing but then he got addicted

Song Meaning

Surprised no one has yet to analyze Josh Scogin's line

"Well, it’s a one man cult and he’s serving his line" The main character is his own army and he's only out to protect himself.

"It’s a “Lust For Life” but it’s a lifeless wine" He's wanting to experience the pleasures of life, but because of what ever he's consuming, it's making him lifeless.

"He kissed her hand and then he found out her name, It’s Death and now he can’t seem to wake" He literally kissed death without knowing. doesn't look like he'll be waking up anytime soon.

"Can't run with the foxes and yet hunt with the wolf"

my favourite line. This song is in general about drug abuse and with this line he shows what drugs are really doing to you. He can't be dead and alive at the same time, even when he acts/ feels like he's dead.
