Ghost Of Days Gone By Lyrics
The misery I know
Like a friend that won't let go
Is creeping up on me now once again
So I sing this song tonight
To the ghost that will not die
And somehow it seems to haunt til the end
Do you you feel the same
For what was remained
Yesterday is gone, we can't go back again
Do you know ever cry for the Ghost of Days Gone By
I remember summer days
We were young & unafraid
With innocence we'd glide beneath the stars
It seems so long ago
Beyond the life that I now know
Before the years would have their way & break my heart
Do you you feel the same
For what was remained
Yesterday is gone, we can't go back again
Do you know ever cry for the Ghost of Days Gone By
And I know it's drawing closer
With each day I feel the end
I... don't want to die
Don't want to die, don't want to die
I DON'T WANT TO DIE
Do you feel the same
For what was remained
Yesterday is gone, we can't go back again
Do you ever cry for the days gone by
Do they haunt you like a ghost until the end
Haunt you til the end, until the end
Until the end, until the end
Like a friend that won't let go
Is creeping up on me now once again
To the ghost that will not die
And somehow it seems to haunt til the end
For what was remained
Yesterday is gone, we can't go back again
Do you know ever cry for the Ghost of Days Gone By
We were young & unafraid

Do you ever cry for the days gone by
Do they haunt you like a ghost until the end
Haunt you til the end, until the end
Until the end, until the end

multiple meanings...
1) Live for today and remember yesterday like filip89 said. 2) However, I believe it primarily is perceived as: Look forward in life, not backwards. No one can change their past, so move on before you miss out on the present.
"Yesterday is gone, we can't go back again" -The line means exactly what it says.
"Do you ever cry for the days gone by" -Saying 'Do you regret anything you've done in the past?'
"Do they haunt you like a ghost until the end" -Means 'Does your past haunt or disturb you in everyday life?'

indeed it's one of the catchiest themes on the record.. i love the idea of how it goes from clean U2-style melodies to dark and moody atmosphere in the bridge... there's some talk about it being the second single of AB III, i hope so.

This song is amazing. It's one of my favourite songs ever and I love the meaning behind it. Look forward, don't look back. Nobody can change the past so don't dwell on your regrets, move on and don't miss out on the present. I agree with what both filip89 and rqpowell91 have said so far.
I think it could more or less follow up on "in loving memory" about Mark's mom that died from cancer. In this song the line "So I sing this song tonight" reminded me of the chorus from "in loving memory"
And I know You're a part of me And it's your song That sets me free I sing it while I feel I can't hold on I sing tonight 'Cause it comforts me
Just another way of looking at it.
I really can relate to this song: Do you ever cry for the ghost of days gone by? Yea I miss the 90s lol.
Mark Tremonti went on tape saying that he wrote the song about growing older and losing the peaceful innocence that came with being young.
This song is saying too let go of the old "Days gone bye" or bad memories that have already happened. Basically, too let go.
Aww. I had forgotten about this song. I heard it today and it hit me right in the feels. All of them.
