Illuminator Lyrics
Awake to the sound of emptiness
Alone and in a room that's filled with the darkest of light
I was told there was nothing beyond here
How do I know what side I'm on
How do I know what side I'm on
How do I know what side I'm on
How do I know what side I'm on
Breathe
A captive with nothing but the thoughts engraved in my skin
I don't belong here
But I can't find my exit
This is where they all come to hunt me down, hunt me down
Where they come to hunt me down
They hunt me down
Weigh up the options
? the new world
I know what you're thinking
Come on man, I swear you can do this
Come on man, I swear you can do this
I break free from this room they built for me
I break free from this room they built for me
This is where they all come to hunt me down, hunt me down
Where they come to hunt me down
They hunt me down
I tore out my naive eyes
So they locked me up
Preying on the innocent
Preying on the innocent
Alone and in a room that's filled with the darkest of light
I was told there was nothing beyond here
How do I know what side I'm on
How do I know what side I'm on
How do I know what side I'm on
How do I know what side I'm on
A captive with nothing but the thoughts engraved in my skin

But I can't find my exit
Where they come to hunt me down

I break free from this room they built for me

This song is about the Illuminati. There is references in this song, also, they have a shirt they are releasing on their online store that has symbolism of the illuminati. The illuminati's goals are all about establishing a "New World Order" or unified Government.
Also - the lyrics aren't complete. These should be the correct lyrics...
Awake to the sound of emptiness. Alone in a room that is filled with the darkest of light. I was told there was nothing beyond here. How do I know what side I'm on? Breathe! A captive with nothing but the thoughts engraved in my skin I dont belong here But I cant find my exit.
This is where they all come to hunt me down, hunt me down Where they go to hunt me down, they hunt me down

The lyrics for this section should be:
"I tore out my NAIVE eyes, so they locked me up."
It's in the background of one of their new press pictures on Facebook.

And also, I agree with truthbeyonddarkness.
The first time I heard this and read the lyrics along with it, that was exactly what I thought. It seems to be referring to the Illuminati with lines such as, "Pave the new world," and "I tore out my naive eyes, so they locked me up ... Preying on the innocent."
is it true???? Aaron is no more with Underoath......
Yes, I'm sorry to say. He left earlier this year. The new album which includes this song was not recorded with Aaron.

On that note, Spencer's clean vocals are shown a little more. They're different, but it fits. Sounds great!

It seems pretty clear to me that UO is referring to the Illuminati with this song...any thoughts on that? I mean, what is your interpretation of that? Are they coming out against it? Are they warning of it? Telling about it? I can't quite tell, so any help would be appreciated.
I've been thinking about this as well. Being a Christian band, the most logical interpretation is that they are coming out against it/warning of it, but I haven't been able to support this (or any other interpretation) in any way based on the lyrics.

It's also a little disconcerting that they are now releasing Illuminati-esque merch, just look at some of the T-Shirt designs. Not saying anything, just think it's a bit weird.

If you read the lyrics, it talks about being in the empty room first. This relates to the ending of the lyrics where he says "I tore out my lying eyes, so they locked me up". It seems like he changes his mind, which makes sense with "how do i know what side im on" as he was once with them and now breaking from them which causes them to throw him in their empty dark room of torture. You can also see the others sayig "Come on man I swear you can do this" and him responding with "I...

If you ask me, I think he's speaking out against any kinds of an illuminati. Underoath never throws something out there that doesn't seem to fit with who they are, but more or so to expose something else we might have missed.
I can relate with the lyrics in saying that i've been pouring out into this "society" that's full of lies & manipulation, yet they cheer me on to staying with them. This is where I see Spencer talk about breaking free from the room where they throw you into, or in the form, where they "hunt me down" or just attack me until I decide to come back to them. But he insists "i don't belong here". It speaks so much truth to me, that being part of a group that is all about "works" and having their own "new world order" is just a lie. To break free, seek truth & freedom. So i wouldn't say they are speaking necessarily into the actual illuminati, but any form that looks like it.
After reading over the lyrics again, I think I agree with mike (for the most part).

It seems like the song begins with him coming to an awareness of the Illuminati. Perhaps him "[Awakening] to the sound of emptiness" is a metaphor for this new awareness. He then wonders how to know whether or not he is (or has been) a part of this.

He realises that in some way, he is a part of it (a "captive"), and that he doesn't belong there, but he doesn't know the way out. The Illuminati realises that he is trying to get out, and comes to "hunt him down", but he breaks free.
He then says that he "tore out [his] naive eyes", referring to when he became aware of the Illuminati, and they "locked [him] up" when they saw that he had experienced this 'awakening'.
That's my interpretation at the moment.
Watched a thing with the band a while back, they said their merch has nothing to do with the illuminati, and they have it because they like the design and think it's cool. Didn't seem like they cared about the illuminati at all, so it makes me doubt the song is about that. Just speculation.

I was just watching these videos that Spencer did, talking about each song on the album. For this song, he says that he wanted to talk about kids who are brought up and basically have beliefs forced onto them from an early age and then when they get older, become jaded and turned off by it instead of being able to embrace beliefs that they have come to on their own. I feel like that helps the lyrics make a lot of sense - to me anyway.
That actually makes a LOT of sense and changes my interpretation of this song entirely. Where can I find these videos!?
