Shock & Awe Lyrics

I was lost for a while
I was knee deep in denial
I was lost for a while
Without my stride my step my style
It took a lot of digging up bones
In my backyard nightly
I'm half a bottle in
I'm just now feeling feisty
A few things could slip
So you'll have to forgive me
No more walking the line
I'm getting downright frisky
I've kept it clean, but now it's high time
For every dirty, awful word
You've had your chance to make your peace
But now I'm gonna make sure this hurts
Yeah, this is Shock.
This is Awe.
This is War.
This is the 'Fuck You' to Richard Reines
Who told me I should lose some weight
Come to think of the pain you do
You screwed our fans, so we screwed you
And up to this point, I think we've been pretty cool
About losing tours to bands with only half of our pull
I wouldn't call it bitter, but I've grown to feel slighted
There's a party going on, we're living life uninvited
've kept it clean, but now it's high time
For every dirty, awful word
You've had your chance to make your peace
But now I'm gonna make sure this hurts
Yeah, this is Shock.
This is Awe.
This is War.
Yeah, this is Shock.
This is Awe.
This is War.

This song is obviously about how badly Drive-Thru Records screwed them over (Richard Reines being one of the owners), they seem to do that to a lot of bands, 1 being I Am The Avalanche, who haven't released a record since '05, they do it all the time, and it seems like all their release dates always get pushed back as well... its sad this used to be my fav label n have a lot of my fav bands

Anyway great song, its good someone took a shot at em, n if he really told em to lose weight that's pretty fucked up

My Interpretation

"Come to think of the pain you do" is actually, "Come to think of it, Payne, you too"

Lyric Correction

Seconded! Cody Payne from The Dangerous Summer designs merch, and YMAEWK hired him to design/manufacture/distribute a limited edition release of 100 t-shirts to coincide with the release of "So Young, So Insane". Long story short, the shirts sold out in a preorder & everything was paid for, but he never sent out most of them out. Some people did get theirs, but a ton of fans were sending YMAEWK emails saying that they paid & never got their shipment. He seems to think it's funny. Not the type of guy I'd want to spend time with.

That guy is such a loser. Luckily, I got my pre-order shirt. I feel bad for all the fans who got screwed over.

You missed the background part of "So, this is a fuck you to Richard Reines" (which is actually the louder of the two parts), where someone says "So, I told the guy 'fuck you.'"

Richard Reines is edited out on the official version for legal reasons. They can't officially say anything disparaging against him. Sad that YMAEWK has gotten dicked over so much.

According to the liner notes, it's

"I haven't kept it clean, but now it's high time for every dirty, awful word"

Cover art for Shock & Awe lyrics by You, Me, and Everyone We Know

In the movie "Me and You and Everyone We Know" (which is more than likely where the band name came from) there's a sign in a contemporary art building that says "Shock & Awe: Images of War. 1965 - 2005"

Just recently watched the film and thought this was a really neat reference.
