Give Out Lyrics

There were your eyes in the dark of the room,
The only ones shining,
The only set I had met in years.
It's not because I always look down.
It might be I always look out.
It might be I always look out.
I am biting my lip
As confidence is speaking to me.
I loosen my grip from my palm,
Put it on your knee.
In my way,
I say
You're the reason why I'll move to the city or
Why I'll need to leave.
You're the reason why I'll move to the city or
Why I'll need to leave.

There was your breath on the back of my neck,
The only one holding,
The only one I had felt in years.
It's not because I always hold on,
It might be I always hold out.
It might be I always hold out.

So what's with the eyes in the back of the room?
The only ones trying.
The only ones I have let in years.
It's not because I always give up,
It might be I always give out.
It might be I always give out.
It might be I always give out.
It might be I always give out.

These are the official lyrics:

There were your eyes in the dark of the room, The only ones shining, The only set I had met in years. It's not because I always look down. It might be I always look out. In my way, I say You're the reason why I'll move to the city or Why I'll need to leave. You're the reason why I'll move to the city or Why I'll need to leave.

keep in mind, these are all variations on live interpretations... since the album isn't out yet. i've heard it several times, with slight differences. in most cases, i've chosen the way in which i've heard it more often than not.

This narrates a first encounter, with someone that stands out in the crowd.

The reason of moving to city, for a meaningful relationship, and also the reason to leave, after it ends.

This is followed by a meditation on why such encounters are not more common. She doesn't look down, but looks out, beyond the people she meets. And doesn't give up on relationships but always gives out, makes a desire for something else felt.

My Interpretation

I disagree, but don't know if I address someone who REALLY KNOWS or just interprets. My take on it is [beautiful song btw, beautiful voice] This is about the love of her life. They are in the room. He [or she] is the only lover she has had in years. She does not deny his advance ever because of her love. She will do whatever need to be done [moving] for him. The love is so pure and strong that ultimately she feels that the sacrifice is not a compromising of her life [giving up] but making her life whole...
