Livin' Th' Dream (2010) Lyrics
Yesterday, I turned 23.
The date didn't mean that much to me.
Then I started adding figures up in my head.
It seems the cost of dreaming has left me in the red.
Because of alcohol, I've shared sixteen beds.
There's a five-year reunion hanging over my head.
At least 11,000 people think I'm something I'm not,
And the courage to let them down isn't something I've still got.
"You can't afford to live like this.
You can't be dumb enough to dream so big."
Sometimes, I want to cheat, but I don't.
I want to quit, but I won't,
cause I made this bed.
Give me a shovel, you'll be amazed
At how fast, I dig a grave.
Baby, just lay in it.
You're only brave until you're scared.
You're only unique until compared
To every other worthless fuck trying to get into bed tonight.
"You can't afford to live like this." (Yes, we can. Yes, we can).
"You can't be dumb enough to dream so big." (Yes, we can. Yes, we can).
Yeah, we'll sail through the sleazy seas
Past all the casting couch's rug-burnt knees.
No, I'm not done yet.
You know, I'm only getting started.
"You can't afford to live like this."
"You can't be dumb enough to dream so big."
Yeah, we'll sail through the sleazy seas
Past all the casting couch's rug-burnt knees.
No, I'm not done yet.
We're not done yet.
"You can't afford to live like this." (Yes, we can. Yes, we can).
"You can't be dumb enough to dream so big." (Yes, we can. Yes, we can).
Yeah, we'll sail through the sleazy seas
Past all the casting couch's rug-burnt knees.

Pretty much the same song, but the lyrics are changed a bit so I figured it was worth posting. I, for one, LOVE the new version.
i do like how with the first "you can't afford to live like this" they left out the "yes we can." i don't like how fast the first chorus goes into that part, though. it seems rushed. all the "oh ohoh oh oh oh oh"'s in the background are a little bit overkill to me, but i watched a video of this song in 2008, and they sang them live. so apparently they've been in the song at least live, since the beginning.
and i really really enjoy the, "WE'RE NOT DONE YET."
overall, for a song that i really really loved originally, i like the remake. maybe not MORE than the original, but i can handle it.
Ben said once that this version is closer to the original way the song was written than the older, released version was.
