Sunday's Pretty Icons Lyrics
There is no plane to catch
No hotel room that's warm enough
No rented room that's quiet
Comes down to where I hide
A friend I've known through dreams and prayers
She comes back to my side
You're so far from wanting to say something good
Feel something good
The secret lives of boys
The story of the both of us
Too close to ever love
Whisky from the year you were born
Tastes like kidnap and ransom and exile
Somebody asked me for help
Somebody asked me what heaven was like
Lunging and happening, panting of souls
Every boy you ever desired
Every love you ever forgot
Every person that you despised is forgiven

There is no hole in which to hide There is no plane to catch No hotel room that's warm enough No rented room that's quiet
A friend I've known through sic degrees Comes down to where I hide A friend I've known Through dreams and prayers She comes back to my side
You're so far from wanting to talk You're so far from wanting to say Something good Feel something good
The secret lives and loves of girls The secret lives of boys The stories the both of us Too close ever to love
Whiskey from the island of sand Whiskey from the year you were born Tastes like kidnap and ransom and exile
Somebody asked me What heaven was like Somebody asked for heaven Somebody asked me What heaven was like Lunch in the happening canteen of souls
Every girl you ever admired Every boy you ever desired Every love you ever forgot Every person that you ever despised is forgiven

[[ Whiskey (as someone mentioned) need not be changed to the Scottish version of the word (Whisky) as we don't know what kind of whiskey they are referring to, despite the band being Scottish - what is the "island of sand"?

What is the only official whiskey-producing ISLAND? -- the island of "Ireland" (incl. Northern Ireland) -- is one clue. ]]

Otherwise - this song seemed simple, and a frankly unsatisfying ending -- but has become excellent under scrutiny and with access to the lyrics.

Fantastic Song.
Fantastic Song.

I think the title refers to objects in a church used in Sunday mass, such as a crucifix, wafers, etc. Like they're simply thought of as "pretty" because people don't take them seriously or think much about them once they leave church after the mass. I'm actually not a Christian so maybe someone else could offer a better explanation. However, I know that Stuart is very religious and often uses Christian references in his songs, like "Somebody asked me what hell was like" and "Every person that you despised is forgiven", which I assume refers to the notion that God forgives.
But can anyone explain the verse with the whisky? I have no idea what that's about.

It's not "The sea cries of loves of girls The sea cries of boys"
It's "the secret lies and loves of girls The secret lies of boys"
or it might actually be lives and not lies

Actually, in response to thefrode989, nice trying but you are wrong: Sund is in Canada, and whiskey from Canada is spelled whiskEy.
Since it's obviously such a big deal to you..

There is no hole in which to hide There is no plane to catch No hotel room that's warm enough No rent to a room that's quiet
A friend I've known through six degrees Cools down to where I hide A friend I've known through dreams and prayers She comes back to my side
You're so far from wanting to talk You're so far from wanting to say something good Feel something good
The sea cries of loves of girls The sea cries of boys The storm, we are the both of us Too close to ever love
Whisky from the Island of Sund Whisky from the year you were born Tastes like kidnap and ransom and exile
Somebody asked me what hell was like Somebody asked me for help Somebody asked me what hell was like Lunging and happening, parting of souls
Every girl you ever admired Every boy you ever desired Every love you ever forgot Every person that you despised is forgiven
*Please note most importantly that Whisky must be spelled without an 'e' as this is a Scottish band, not an Irish one.
Ok, I have questions about this. I've only ever bought Belle and Sebastian on itunes, so I do not know if physical copies of the albums are accompanied with lyrics, but even if these are the lyrics supplied by the band they are not the lyrics that are sung in the song. Everywhere I've looked online for lyrics has something similar to what you have here, but...they just don't match up with the song.

Most of what you have here is accurate, but here is what am hearing differently:

I swear there is a "d" sound after the word "rent". It does not sound like "rent to a"
"The secret lies and loves of girls The secret lies of boys The story of the both of us Too close to ever love"
Again, this just sounds relatively clear to me. I've been forcing random friends to listen while reading the supplied lyrics and reading what I think they should be, and so far everyone has thought my edits were more accurate
"Lunging (lunching???) and happening, counting of souls"
I'm torn between "lunching" and "lunging". It could go either way. "counting" sounds awfully clear, though.
Anyways, good job to whomever first transcribed the song. Most of it sounds accurate! At the moment, it is my favorite from the new album. Very beautiful music and lyrics that hard to unravel.
