Architects & Engineers Lyrics

I live on the second floor,
of an old row house down in Baltimore,
Watching all the colors and the shapes,
standing tall up here,
My face against the window,

These moments they can never last,
Like a sad old man with his photographs,
Wishing for the things he cannot change,
Standing tall up here,
My face against the window.

So the architects
and the engineers
Build the monuments
Make the souvenirs
We are occupants
It's a trap this town
We are burning up
We are fading out
We are shooting stars

Great song probably my favorite on Easy Wonderful.

Couple of corrections to the lyrics.

It's "colors and shapes" in the first verse

The end part is

So the architects and the engineers Build the monuments Make the souvenirs We are occupants It's a trap this town We are burning up We are fading out We are shooting stars

I feel like this song is about wasted potential. Not realizing until it's too late that you could of been something bigger. You're looking at the city outside your window, watching things pass you by. It's the architects and engineers, the ones who worked harder to be where they are, that are doing something worthwhile. That's just what I get out of it.

My Interpretation

I can agree with that and would add that it's a call to make your mark. Life is fleeting your won't be around forever "We are shooting stars" so do something that will leave a lasting impression much like an architect or an engineer designs something that lasts through the ages.
