Bluebird Lyrics
Word came through in a letter,
One of us changing our minds.
You won't need to guess who, since I usually do,
Not send letters to me that are mine.
Told you I saw this coming,
That I'd practically packed up my things.
Was glad at the time that I'd said I was fine but,
All honesty knows, I wasn't ready, no.
And so here we go bluebird,
Back to the sky on your own.
Oh let him go bluebird,
Ready to fly,
You and I,
Here we go.
Here we go.
This pair of wings worn and rusted,
Like a carnival ride in the rain.
They can carry me swear to be,
Sturdy and strong but see,
Turning them on still causes me pain.
Leave my love in a letter,
Went to the bes on your side.
Fine gathered my things, I'll make the best of these wings,
And me and my bird take to the sky.
And so here we go bluebird,
Gather your strength and rise up.
Oh let him go bluebird.
Oh let him go bluebird.
Oh let him go bluebird.
Ready to fly,
You and I,
Here we go.
Here we go...
One of us changing our minds.
You won't need to guess who, since I usually do,
Not send letters to me that are mine.
That I'd practically packed up my things.
Was glad at the time that I'd said I was fine but,
All honesty knows, I wasn't ready, no.
Back to the sky on your own.
Oh let him go bluebird,
Ready to fly,
You and I,
Here we go.
Here we go.
Like a carnival ride in the rain.
They can carry me swear to be,
Turning them on still causes me pain.
Went to the bes on your side.
Fine gathered my things, I'll make the best of these wings,
And me and my bird take to the sky.
Gather your strength and rise up.
Oh let him go bluebird.
Oh let him go bluebird.
Oh let him go bluebird.
Ready to fly,
You and I,
Here we go.
Here we go...

It could be a breakup and that she didn't want to lose him or it could be somebody passing away "Back to the sky on the own" Having to do with going up towards heaven.
I think it's about getting dumped, basically. They knew this was coming and pretty much prepared for it. That still doesn't make it hurt less but they have to move on.
I think this song is so beautiful. The meaning is obvious, she saw the end coming before he had and prepared herself but it still hurts.
She has received the divorce papers. It was a long marriage that they'd tried over and over to make work. Somebody had to call it a day. It could have been either of them, but she's fairly certain it wasn't her. Now, comes the time to start her life over. She's rusty with playing the single's game. But, where before, one of the reasons to keep her marriage was so she wouldn't have to put herself through this. Now, she's resigned to the fact that it is time to move forward. Not alone but with bluebird. The symbolic part of her own Self - not the person who was Mrs So and So; not the mother; not the homemaker, but the beautiful, desirable, lovable person she once was.
This song is about separation, yes. Although it does have a solemn and down right melancholy melody, the lyrics actually give hope. Bluebirds are a symbol of happiness and hope. While the relationship may be over their lives are not. They still have a future. A chance for love and success. They can now move on and be happy. Even if it's not with each other.
