Machine Gun Lyrics

Tell me off in a letter
Completely ignore me
Getting high off of saying
Why you don't adore me

Baby, please, I'm well versed
In how I might be cursed
I don't need it articulated

Stand in line wasting
All of your time just to hate me
Every dime gone to ways
You can find that might bait me

And drag me down, sight set proudly
Bring me to the ground see
You love to be somebody's enemy

Maybe nobody loved you when you were young
Maybe, boy, when you cry, nobody ever comes
Will you try it once?
Give up the machine gun
Machine gun

Locked and loaded
You're practically floating away now
In your fortress you feel like
You're more or less safe now

But let me say I don't mean harm
Oh, but, baby, you'd be charming if you'd come undone

Get back where you started from

Maybe nobody loved you when you were young
Maybe, boy, when you cry, nobody ever comes
Will you try it once?
Give up the machine gun
Machine gun

Never mind how you've rationed your time
And the battle is underway
Maybe times are gonna change
Don't just hide in the silence behind

What you've really been trying to say
What a skill, baby, aiming to kill me
With words you don't mean

Maybe nobody loved you when you were young
Maybe, boy, when you cry, nobody ever comes
Will you try it once?
Give up the machine gun

Will you try it once?
Give up the machine gun
Will you try it once?
Give up the machine gun
Machine gun

Singing about a person that loves to fight just to fight. I love this whole album

This is a song for the critics, the office gossips, the mean girls, etc. of the world who just want to bring you down because they can.

I especially think this part "Locked and loaded You're practically floating away now In your fortress you feel like You're more or less safe now" is directed at the online communities that hide behind their anonymity and are the most judgemental and cruelest of the bunch.

Other parts you can tell are directed at people who talk behind your back, smile to your face, and play dumb if you call them out on it.

To me, this song is directed at anyone in life that is stuck on whatever disappointments, failures and/or fears from the past or present. Instead of letting someone (friends, family, or whoever) help them through whatever the problem is, they find ways to minipulate whatever you say or do to bring you down to their level. They have so much hatred towards something/someone from the past and can't or refuse to let go and move on. They'd rather take out that hostility toward you.

They have walls of protection to insure whatever it is from the past doesn't happen again. I especially love the next few lines from the song because I've been the one with the "Machin Gun" before. They...like where I use to be...rather be angry at the world instead of letting someone be their friend. They have a "fortress" around their heart and within that "fortress"...they feel "more or less safe now", and they're "locked and loaded"...ready to do whatever it takes to keep their safe sanctuary, protect their heart, and not be hurt again.

This definitely goes for those who insist on trying to bring down others for no apparent reason... The kind of people that need to attack others to be happy, even if the target has never done anything to them or is just indiferent. I think this says it all:

"What a skill, baby, aiming to kill me With words you don't mean"

It's such a classy way to say your life is horrible, probably no one loves you because of the pathetic way you try to be happy.

Sorry xD I'm kinda mad at someone who fits in this song perfecty... Am I too evil if I just dedicated it??? :D Hahaha I love Sara

This ENTIRE album describes my huge break up and life situation right now. I agree with the general consensus,it's aimed at people who attempt to bring others down at all costs.

while at her concert last week she explained what this song was about. basically its about someone who made really rude comments to her (well she said it was to "her friend" but i think she was kidding") on a message board and how its funny how people are so brave behind a computer screen and will just go off on people to make themselves feel better. great song.
