I thought this song was "my ego" at first :)

If you interpret it that way then it does make a nice metaphor about being too self-absorbed and paranoid to think about anyone else.

According to their interview in Triple J magazine it was ego and the song is about the ego but they changed it to eagle

All this song reminds me of is a show called Beastmaster. It was about a guy who could comunicate with animals and see through their eyes. One of his friends was an eagle who flew around keeping a look out for enemies. It was a cool show
